Job Summary:

The Maker Space Coordinator will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing student and community programming and events in the Peter B. Moore Changemaker Space. This role will involve coordinating, marketing, and hosting maker space events, providing technical support, and supporting students and clients utilizing the Maker space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing content and materials for maker space events and providing technical support as needed
  • Supporting students and clients utilizing the Maker space, including providing resources, knowledge, and support to help them achieve their goals
  • Building and fostering student engagement by liaising with college partners and departments to create events, collaborations, and experiential activities
  • Researching and staying current on innovative ways for students to access workshops, videos, and virtual experiences
  • Analyzing trends in student engagement in the Maker Space and bringing forward recommendations for the marketing plan
  • Providing technical support for the Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship department
  • Coordinating and monitoring the budget for the Maker Space, including procuring materials, technology, and supplies
  • Providing support with and demonstrating the use of technology within the space, including coding, rapid prototype development, and machinery operation
  • Investigating technical errors and rectifying software or hardware malfunctions
  • Assisting the Director with recruiting and hiring coop students and onboarding them to the Maker Space
  • Overseeing and providing functional guidance to coop students and assigning tasks based on operational need
  • Developing, supporting, and facilitating external workshops for industry partners
  • Filming and editing events and posting to department social media accounts and YouTube
  • Creating marketing materials in support of the Maker Space and its events
  • Preparing, recording, and editing podcasts on behalf of the Maker Space
  • Building partnerships and collaborating with external organizations to increase awareness of the space and create networking opportunities for students

Qualifications:

  • Two-year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study, such as Computer Programmer Analyst or a related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a similar role, including supporting students and student engagement, event coordination, and technology support
  • Creative background in art or entrepreneurship would be an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Graphic design skills
  • Experience working with students and supporting student engagement and support
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite and proficiency with Airtable, Adobe Premier, Canva, Eventbrite, Basecamp, Slack, Discord, and Pheedloop would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in a role where duties included video editing and production
