Job Description

AJ's Brooklyn Pizza Joint is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Manager to oversee the daily operations of our restaurants. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our businesses, maintaining high standards of quality and customer service, and driving sales growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operations Management:
    • Oversee daily cash handling and balancing of tip spreadsheets
    • Distribute weekly tips to staff
    • Liaise with the Director of Operations and bookkeeper on monetary matters
    • Manage payroll, including tracking vacation and sick days, and submitting new employee information
    • Resolve discrepancies with our point-of-sale system and payment processors
    • Ensure accurate employee hours are recorded and approved daily
    • Monitor COGS percentages and implement cost control measures to maximize profit
    • Troubleshoot equipment, plumbing, and electrical issues, and relay problems to ownership as needed
    • Collaborate with the head Chef to maintain and update food and allergy syllabi
  • Correspondence and Scheduling:
    • Oversee and assist with business email responses
    • Develop and send biweekly staff schedules
  • Service and Guest Experience:
    • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment
    • Ensure a positive atmosphere during service
    • Support the host team by greeting and seating guests, managing the waitlist, and maximizing capacity without compromising guest experience
    • Troubleshoot potential issues and work with staff to create memorable experiences
    • Support staff on the floor during service to minimize service issues
    • Ensure all side duties are fulfilled
    • Communicate with the kitchen throughout the night to resolve potential issues
    • Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner
    • Closing duties, including cashing out, ensuring all closing tasks are completed, and securing the premises
  • General Duties:
    • Develop and implement restaurant systems to streamline operations
    • Identify areas for improvement in physical appearance, cleanliness, and organization, and take initiative to address them
    • Bring concerns and critical restaurant decisions to ownership for discussion and resolution
    • Participate in weekly meetings with ownership, bar team, and kitchen team to discuss service, quality, and development
    • Maintain and promote AJ's culture
    • Nurture relationships with BOH and FOH staff, provide positive feedback, and resolve contentious issues
    • Provide a comfortable work environment
Requirements
  • 2+ years of restaurant management experience
  • 3+ years of food service experience
  • 1+ year of kitchen experience
  • 5+ years of restaurant experience
