About the Role
The University of Toronto seeks a dedicated and passionate Academic Advisor to join our team and support student success. In this role, you will play a vital part in guiding students through their academic journey, providing them with the resources and guidance they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students, assisting them with course selection, program planning, and academic progress monitoring.
- Develop and deliver workshops and presentations on a range of academic topics, such as study skills, time management, and career exploration.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other departments to ensure a seamless student experience and address any academic concerns or challenges.
- Maintain accurate student records and utilize advising software systems effectively.
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of all students.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Excellent reading, oral, and written communication skills.
- Critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion, with an understanding of the implications of disabilities for student success.
- Knowledge of the strengths and challenges of adults with disabilities and cultural views of disability.
- Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problem-solving skills, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize knowledge, display sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Familiarity with the general academic structure of a university and the specific requirements of academic courses and programs.
