Server - Hornblower Cruises and Events

About the Server Role:
Hornblower Cruises and Events is seeking a skilled Server to join our team on board our City Cruises operation in Toronto. As a Server, you will be responsible for providing exceptional hospitality to our guests, ensuring a memorable experience for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to guests, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.
- Take orders and enter them into the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently.
- Serve food and beverages in a timely manner, ensuring guests receive their orders promptly.
- Follow established steps of service to ensure a seamless dining experience.
- Liaise with the kitchen, manager, and assistant manager to resolve any service or food issues.
- Assume responsibility for assigned areas and assist team members as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all common areas and service stations.
- Participate in the celebration and entertainment experience of our guests.
- Sell and upsell food and beverage products to maximize revenue.
- Assist with the warm and efficient greeting and seating of guests.
- Set up and break down dining room/event room and service stations as required.
- Clean the dining room areas in between events and as needed.
- Accurately collect payment from guests for on-board purchases.
- Assist with post-cruise clean-up, including changing garbage bags and taking them out, polishing cutlery and china, cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, and resetting tables.
- Provide information to guests about menu descriptions, order of service, entertainment options, cruise route, and points of interest.
- May be asked to train new staff members.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
- One year of experience in a high-volume restaurant environment.
- Smart Serve Certification required.
- Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential.
- Ability to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
- Service-oriented, actively looking for ways to help others.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to work for extended periods without sitting.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move, or lift up to 40 pounds (18 kg).
- Required to lift furniture and other heavy items, such as dishes, up and down stairs.
- Availability to work on all major holidays.
- Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including non-slip shoes, gloves, weather-appropriate dress attire, and sun protection.
