Practical Nursing Specialist - Extended Care

The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) employs the nursing methodology to assist clients/residents/patients in attaining and sustaining their highest level of wellness through a person-centered care model within various settings including acute care, transitional care, personal care homes, primary health care, public health initiatives, and home care services. The PNS operates within the full scope of practice, engages in continuous education, and upholds competency in alignment with the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud, Professional Standards of Practice, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics, and the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses in Manitoba, as well as the Regulated Health Professions Act.

The individual in this role will demonstrate the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in prioritizing tasks, determining methodologies, and addressing atypical situations. The position is performed in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Required Qualifications
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification applicable to various care settings
  • Understanding of Professional Standards of Practice, Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses in Manitoba, and the Code of Ethics
  • Proven ability to cultivate a collaborative interdisciplinary environment that enhances service quality, promotes quality improvement, and empowers staff
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain constructive working relationships
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient oral and written communication abilities
  • Analytical and inquisitive approach to problem-solving while contributing to program enhancements
  • Proven ability to lead and make autonomous decisions
  • Strong organizational capabilities and adaptability to meet the demands of the role
  • Competently perform the responsibilities associated with the position
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and competency relevant to the practice area
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population, reflecting the region's diversity
  • Proficiency in both official languages is essential for designated bilingual roles
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality across various formats
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the role
