About the Role

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is seeking a highly skilled Government Relations Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Policy and Public Affairs department, you will play a critical role in advancing the interests of Canadian municipalities at the federal level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive advocacy plans to promote the interests of municipalities in Ottawa.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with federal elected officials, their staff, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze federal, provincial, and territorial policy developments to identify opportunities and challenges for municipalities.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leadership and the National Board of Directors on key policy issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective communications strategies to engage with municipalities and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development of policy briefs, memos, and other communications products to inform decision-making.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of federal politics, policy-making processes, and the interests of municipalities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is required.
