About the Role

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Government Relations to join our team in Ottawa. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in developing and executing various government relations strategies to advance the interests of the Canadian media production industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Government Relations Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies to promote the interests of the CMPA and the Canadian media production industry.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, and departmental officials, to ensure the CMPA is a leader on public policy discussions related to the sector.
  • Policy Monitoring: Monitor proposed legislation, regulation, and other public policy initiatives at both the federal and provincial levels, and provide recommendations on appropriate responses and/or courses of action.
  • Advocacy: Develop and execute advocacy initiatives, including 'Lobby Days' and Member set visits, to engage and mobilize constituencies at the grassroots level.
  • Reporting and Budgeting: Track and measure the performance of the association's advocacy activities and report to the Board on initiatives. Manage the annual GR budget and external GR consultants.
Requirements
  • Education: Hold a university degree or an equivalent level of professional experience working in government affairs, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Possess at least 7+ years of professional experience working in government affairs or public administration at either the provincial or federal level.
  • Skills: Excellent ability to think strategically, strong interpersonal and communication capacity, exceptional presentation abilities, and superior research capacity and analytical thinking.
  • Language: Proficiency with the English language at a high professional level is considered a minimum qualification. A working ability with the French language is considered an asset.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication capacity, including exceptional presentation abilities and a solid understanding of social networking.
  • Research and Analysis: Superior research capacity and analytical thinking to monitor and evaluate legislative, policy, and government budget proposals.
  • Project Management: Strong aptitude for initiating and leading projects, including advocacy initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
