Urban Forestry Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Forestry Specialist to join our Infrastructure Services Department, Operations Division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in the management of the urban forest within the City of Cambridge.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to inquiries from staff and the public regarding tree safety, maintenance, and bylaws.
- Conduct thorough tree inspections, risk assessments, and plan related work with excellent customer service skills.
- Create and manage service requests and work orders, assigning tasks to the appropriate team.
- Operate a G-class vehicle in various weather conditions.
- Maintain the urban forest asset registry using Geographic Information Systems.
- Supervise and manage the work of contractors, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and performance requirements.
- Process and review development applications, planning documents, and tree bylaw applications.
- Completion of a recognized two-year college-level forestry program or equivalent.
- Certified Arborist- International Society of Arboriculture.
- Municipal Specialist Designation-International Society of Arboriculture or comparable designation.
- G-class Driver's License.
- 2-3 years of experience in forestry, planning, environmental management, or a related field.
- Field experience with tree identification, tree risk assessment, and tree management planning.
- Customer service experience, including dispute resolution.
- Effective use of work management systems, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
This position is within Grade 9 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule, with an annual salary range of $88,546 to $94,099. A comprehensive benefits package and OMERS are also included.
Working HoursThe current regular working hours are in accordance with the collective agreement, with a 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday. Overtime and standby may be required periodically.
