Primary Role: The individual in this position is responsible for enforcing the applicable regulations, statutes, codes, and standards related to zoning and construction. This includes reviewing and monitoring permit applications, addressing complaints, and managing all other inquiries received by the department, in alignment with the overarching policies and goals of the municipality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance to construction applicants and professionals regarding the regulations, procedures, and methodologies necessary for obtaining or approving licenses. Review and assess submitted plans and documents, issue requested permits, and ensure proper oversight throughout the construction process.
  • Conduct inspections of projects associated with issued permits and certificates, as well as other construction-related activities; identify violations of various regulations and mandate corrections when necessary.
  • Draft and prepare reports and notices of violations, and represent the department in municipal or provincial court for litigation cases. Additionally, respond to requests for investigative reports related to specific litigation files.
  • Evaluate, verify, and coordinate requests and documentation pertinent to the town planning committee and city council.
  • Contribute to the development of local by-laws upon request; provide input on proposed amendments, regulations, and complex cases; occasionally review master plans.
  • Receive, process, and follow up on complaints submitted to the department, offering expertise in all matters related to health and other relevant issues.
  • Coordinate with engineering, town planning, fire prevention, public works, public safety departments, and other municipal or provincial authorities regarding files related to this role.
  • Authorize or deny requests for occupancy, demolition licenses, authorization certificates, and all other construction-related permits.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Completion of a college diploma in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in a related occupation.
  • Bilingual proficiency.
  • Possession of a Class 5 driver's license.
