Strategic Vision

With recent funding of $38.1M from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's Strategic Science Fund, MEOPAR is poised to expand its research, training, and knowledge mobilization efforts. This new direction aims to enhance Canada's scientific capabilities to respond to environmental changes and promote a sustainable Blue Economy while safeguarding marine biodiversity.

Role Overview

We are in search of a dynamic and seasoned Chief Executive Officer to spearhead our initiatives and amplify our impact on ocean science and development. The CEO will be responsible for:

  • Leading the strategic execution and evolution of MEOPAR's scientific agenda;
  • Forging partnerships and networks across various sectors to ensure comprehensive support for our activities;
  • Overseeing the effective management and operations of MEOPAR;
  • Collaborating closely with the Board Chair and Scientific Directors to guide the organization's administrative and operational functions.

Key Deliverables

Under the Strategic Science Fund, the CEO will focus on:

  • Enhancing ocean scientific capabilities and broadening access to essential knowledge;
  • Developing advanced tools and strategies for ocean observation and information sharing;
  • Boosting economic opportunities and community resilience in coastal areas through user-driven science;
  • Improving access to major ocean research facilities;
  • Diversifying and expanding Canada's ocean research talent pool.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree or extensive experience in a relevant field (e.g., Earth Science, Environmental Studies, Oceanography) and a proven track record in fostering research networks and partnerships, preferably within academic or public sectors. Familiarity with federal government structures and funding mechanisms is advantageous.

The CEO should demonstrate exceptional managerial skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including scientists, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and industry partners. Experience across various Canadian regions and bilingual proficiency in English and French are considered assets.
