About the Role

Brar Legal Services is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our team. As a Law Clerk, you will play a critical role in supporting our lawyers in court proceedings and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish Work Priorities: Assist in prioritizing tasks for court staff to ensure efficient and effective case management.
  • Document Management: Receive, review, and verify affidavits, declarations, and affirmations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Court Representation: Represent clients in small claims court and other lower court proceedings, tribunals, and administrative bodies, providing excellent communication and advocacy skills.
  • Research and Record-Keeping: Conduct thorough research on court files, records, and other legal documents, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Schedule court trials, arrange pre-trial conferences, and hearings, ensuring timely and efficient case progression.
  • Witness and Certification: Witness and certify the validity of signatures on documents, maintaining the integrity of legal proceedings.
  • Financial Management: Collect and record administrative and service fees, ensuring accurate financial records.
  • Correspondence and Communication: Draft legal correspondence, explaining rights and obligations to defendants, and providing clear and concise communication.
Requirements
  • Education: College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years, or equivalent experience.
  • Work Setting: Experience working in a legal firm or similar environment.
  • Personal Suitability: Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
