Position Overview

The Dining Room Attendant is responsible for addressing customer inquiries, managing the cashier station, and serving beverages or items not found at the buffet counters. This role requires knowledge of health and safety regulations, the ability to respond to emergencies, and compliance with relevant provincial regulations. The Buffet Service Specialist should foster a welcoming atmosphere for guests, showcasing professionalism and a positive demeanor. The primary objective is to deliver exceptional service that enhances guest satisfaction. Additionally, the Server plays a crucial role in cultivating a workplace environment that motivates and uplifts fellow team members, ensuring a joyful and memorable experience for all guests.

Key Responsibilities

Promote a service culture that guarantees superior internal and external guest service from all team members. Ensure adherence to all regulatory, departmental, and company policies and procedures. Maintain the highest standards of professionalism in interactions with guests and colleagues. Possess basic wine knowledge to suggest and present wine options to guests. Make thoughtful suggestions to enhance guest experiences and increase check averages. Take guest orders promptly and accurately, using guests' names when possible. Keep work areas tidy and organized. Provide information about food, beverages, and restaurant services. Complete side work at the beginning and end of each shift as per service station assignments. Ensure cleanliness in service areas. Monitor guests' dining experiences, ensuring satisfaction with food and service, and respond to requests promptly. Assist fellow servers as needed to ensure smooth operations. Thank guests for their patronage and encourage their return. Be prepared to assist in various roles to ensure efficient restaurant operations as directed by management. Participate in pre-shift meetings and complete service and closing duties. Maintain control over alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as applicable. Become proficient with the restaurant's procedure manual and technology systems. Check the weekly schedule and manage your shifts responsibly. Stay informed about current food and beverage programs and customer feedback through regular communication with management. Foster effective communication within the restaurant team. Discuss any challenges with management and collaborate on solutions. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Strong customer service skills. Successful completion of Responsible Beverage and Food Safety programs is required. High School diploma or equivalent. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Ability to respond to visual and auditory cues. Capacity to handle situations involving intoxicated guests professionally. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments. Professional demeanor is essential. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Strong organizational and time management skills. Previous experience in customer service is required. Experience as a server is essential. Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) is an asset. Familiarity with wine and beverage offerings is a plus. Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.

Work Environment Considerations

The role is set in a dynamic restaurant or bar environment, requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and bending, with the potential to lift up to 35 lbs. Non-traditional work hours, including holidays, evenings, overnight, or weekend shifts, may be required.
