Utilize Your CPA Expertise to Lead Investigative Processes

As a pivotal member of CPA Ontario's Standards Enforcement team, you will be instrumental in the preliminary evaluation of complaints regarding professional misconduct. This role is essential in ensuring that the public receives effective regulation of the profession while safeguarding the rights of members, students, and firms involved in complaints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preliminary investigations into allegations of professional misconduct against CPA Ontario members, students, and firms. This includes effective communication with complainants and respondents to gather relevant information and documentation.
  • Provide expert knowledge in accounting and assurance during the investigative process, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand.
  • Analyze materials submitted by involved parties, perform research, and create risk-adjusted case plans to collect and evaluate evidence regarding potential breaches of the CPA Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Draft detailed reports and documentation that will support the Director of Standards Enforcement and the Professional Conduct Committee in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Engage in special projects and initiatives, collaborating with various departments to align with the organization’s strategic and regulatory objectives.
  • Participate in committees, working groups, and task forces related to the CPA Code of Professional Conduct and the operations of the Standards Enforcement department.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate with a CPA designation, currently in good standing with CPA Ontario.
  • Experience in public accounting, particularly within a regulatory or compliance context.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment, handling a diverse caseload effectively.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by excellent public speaking and report writing abilities.
  • A proactive individual with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in digital tools, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Salesforce; familiarity with data analytics tools like Power BI is advantageous.
