Responsibilities

Tasks

- Co-ordinate administrative services
- Help in preparing and completing applications for simple joint and uncontested divorces, domestic contracts and name changes
- Interview clients, witnesses and other related parties
- Perform clerical duties, such as maintain filing systems
- Write trial briefs
- Draft legal correspondence

Key Duties

Family Law

- Draft, file, and serve family law pleadings (applications, motions, affidavits, financial statements)
- Prepare materials for case conferences, settlement meetings, mediations, and trials
- Manage ongoing family law files, coordinate deadlines, and organize client documentation
- Liaise with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and service providers
- Prepare uncontested divorce packages and financial disclosure briefs

Criminal Law

- Assist in obtaining, reviewing, and organizing disclosure and evidence
- Prepare court forms: bail packages, subpoenas, pre-trial motions, and trial briefs
- Draft legal correspondence, track case timelines, and schedule court dates
- Liaise with clients, witnesses, police, and crown attorneys
- Support lawyers with research on case law and precedents relevant to criminal defense

Real Estate Law

- Prepare and review documents for purchases, sales, mortgages, and transfers of property
- Conduct title searches, due diligence, and review agreements of purchase and sale
- Coordinate closings, arrange funding, and communicate with lenders, title insurers, and real estate agents
- Organize and maintain real estate files, manage registrations and post-closing reporting
- Upload case materials to Ontario portals (e.g., CaseLines, JSO)

Qualifications

- College/CEGEP diploma in Legal Studies, Legal Assistant, or Paralegal
- 2 years to less than 3 years of experience
- Superior written and verbal communication skills; strong initiative and client focus
- Technical proficiency: Google Docs, MS Office, PC Law, Adobe PDF; real estate/DivorceMate software an asset
- Registration on LSO Connect (Lawyer Licensing Portal) considered an asset, not required
