We are seeking a full-time Law Clerk to provide knowledgeable and skilled assistance at a small but busy practice in Grimsby, Ontario.

The ideal candidate possesses: excellent time management and organizational skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written); attention to detail; ability to take initiative and work independently; ability to work within tight timeframes; and team player attitude and willingness to support other staff, if necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • 3-5 years experience in civil litigation.
  • Law Clerk designation from an accredited post-secondary program
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and statutes
  • Proficient with legal software (ACL, Soluno/Actionstep, etc.) and office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and diarize deadlines and limitations
  • Prepare files for discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, and trials
  • Draft, serve and file all originating and interlocutory materials including claims and defences, motion and application records, notices, trial records, and trial readiness and certification forms, etc.
  • Draft and serve affidavits of documents and document briefs
  • Prepare correspondence concerning undertakings
  • Coordinate and schedule discoveries, mediations, and pre-trials
  • Daily communication with the clients, counsel, third-party contacts, etc.
  • Conduct intake interviews with potential clients
  • Other duties as assigned.
