**Farmers' and Property Rights Advocate (FPRAO)** - The Farmers and Property Rights Advocate Offices **(FPRAO)** provide information and resources on legislation and advocate on behalf of property owners. The Farmers’ Advocate Office (FAO) and the Property Rights Advocate Office (PRAO) operate under two separate mandates. The FAO is an issues-driven office that provides timely information to rural Albertans and supports fair process through advice, dispute resolution and advocacy. The PRAO listens to Albertans’ concerns about property rights and communicates them to government.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Legal Research Analyst (LRA) performs a pivotal role in our organization, conducting comprehensive reviews and assessments of land title documents, legislation, legal decisions, and quasi-judicial rulings. This role is instrumental in providing operational and consultative support to aid in dispute resolution for our clients, working collaboratively with all specialists in the Farmers' and Property Rights Advocate (FPRAO).

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Developing a Database of FPRAO Recurring Issues**:

- Conduct thorough reviews of past case files and interviews with staff to identify prevalent issues.
- Determine key issues for inclusion in the database and compile supporting documentation.
- Select appropriate database platform and maintain the database regularly.

**Land Titles/Legal & Quasi-Judicial Decision Review and Assessment**:

- Obtain, review, and evaluate land titles, including caveats and encumbrances.
- Identify relevant government departments, agencies, and organizations with supporting legal decisions.
- Provide written assessments of documents related to specific issues.

**Stakeholder Interaction**:

- Engage with agricultural producers, industry organizations, landowner groups, and community organizations.
- Communicate with the Minister, Deputy Minister, and cross-ministry staff on pertinent issues, collaborations, and policy updates.

**Consultation and Recommendations**:

- Draft high-level Briefing Notes in ARTS, including actionable recommendations.
- Provide guidance to FPRAO specialists on rural agricultural matters.
- Recommend appropriate responses to agricultural organizations on pertinent matters.

**Client Response**:

- Review client requests and determine tailored responses.

**Collaborative Environment**:

- The FPRAO team operates collaboratively, pooling together a diverse range of skills and expertise. Both the Assistant Farmers' Advocate and FPRA (lawyer) are available to provide guidance and support to the Legal Research Analyst as needed.

**Miscellaneous Duties**:

- Contribute to the creation, revision, and updating of advisories, documents, forms, policies, and manuals.
- Provide support for other specialists as needed.
- Undertake additional projects and duties as required.

**Qualifications**:
**Two (2) year diploma** in a related field plus **two (2) years progressively responsible related experience**; or equivalent as described.

**Equivalencies** maybe considered - directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

**Additional Requirements**:

- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret legislation and research land titles, legal decisions, and contract concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience in agricultural or property rights issues preferred.
- Proficiency in database management preferred.

**Preference will be given to those with knowledge and hands on experience in the agriculture industry.**
