The Ministry of Education has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Research Analyst within its Systems excellence division.


The Research Analyst has a lead role in translating academic, quantitative, qualitative, and theoretical research reports and submissions into publishable and usable documents to inform the work of the Ministry and education system.

In addition, the Research Analyst plans and organizes training and information events to strengthen research capacity within the Ministry and share research findings with internal and external stakeholders.

This position provides information development, research and analysis, consultation, issues identification, and coordination services to support the Branch in achieving business plan goals.


As a member of a highly collaborative and integrated team, the Research Analyst develops communication materials and strategies, including action request responses, briefing notes, ministerial and other correspondence, reports, and plans, for communicating research-related information.

In addition, this position develops summaries and recommendations relating to Ministry research initiatives and manages the dissemination of associated information through newsletters, websites, and other mediums to internal and external audiences.


This position researches information pertaining to branch programs and priority areas and those of other branches within the division as requested.

This includes planning and coordinating environmental scanning and literature review projects, analyzing findings, identifying issues and options, and developing response strategies, recommendations, and briefings for the consideration of senior Ministry representatives and stakeholders.


Responsibilities include:

Consultation and project coordination services are provided to facilitate the alignment of Ministry research activities in support of provincial education goals:

  • Participates in the Alberta Education Research Committee, including drafting terms of reference and other documents, developing meeting agendas, identifying research originating in Ministry business areas with potential corporate research value for presentation to the committee.
  • Assists Senior Manager with design and conduct of major corporate research initiatives, including drafting Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other documents, participating in associated committees and work groups.
  • Provides research and analytical assistance to Ministry business areas conducting research projects or requiring research information.
  • Environmental scanning, research and analytical services are provided to identify information and issues relevant to the Branch mandate and develop associated evidence-based input and recommendations.
  • Performs environmental scans, literature reviews, and other research, identifies and compiles relevant information, conducts analyses, interprets findings and anticipates implication.
  • Monitors and reviews publications, summarizing key points and identifying emerging issues; provides information on emerging trends and issues with potential to impact Branch mandate.

  • Communication materials and documents are developed on behalf of the Branch, ensuring consistency of messages, and appropriateness of contents for identified audiences, and compliance with relevant policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Identifies, researches, synthesizes, and analyzes information to prepare action request responses, briefing notes, reports, correspondence, presentations, fact sheets, and other communications materials, ensuring appropriate reflection of Ministry business plan goals, positions, and priorities.
