**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the supervision of the Hardware Services Supervisor, the Computer Technician provides hardware and software support for PCs (desktops and laptops), laser printers, scanners and other peripherals with a focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations. The responsibilities include providing service to purchasers of new PCs, receiving, configuring, and installing the associated hardware and software and safely preserving and transferring preferences, files and data as required. This support is provided to faculty, staff and students. The incumbent maintains accurate service records, orders parts as needed, provides assistance with purchase decisions regarding peripherals and performs work on other electronic equipment as necessary.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Solid knowledge of computers to be able to determine the proper course of action.
- Sufficient relevant experience to be able to identify common problems and be familiar with a wide variety of hardware configurations and software packages.
- Superior customer service and communications skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure is a requirement.
- Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks in a busy environment.
- Knowledge and experience with installing, upgrading, repairing, and troubleshooting computers, peripherals, printers, and scanner equipment.
- Excellent organizational skills and be able to effectively work within a team.
- Ability to explain, demonstrate, and teach computer and software concepts and usage to non-technical people.
- Superior ability to communicate effectively with clients at all levels is essential.
- Consistently demonstrates well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of computer hardware maintenance and repair.
- Able to establish effective liaison/rapport with other ITS staff and people from other Computing Support Units (CSUs) across campus.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- Graduation from a 2-year program from a recognized institute of applied arts and technology, or equivalent.
- Competence in COMPTIA A+ Certification, and have the ability to obtain Certification via training for the Dell Self Maintainer program.
- Five years of related computer repair, maintenance, installation, and documentation experience.
