**Job Overview**:Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the HR Advisor acts as a trusted partner for several of our core functions. This position provides expert advice to directors, managers, and frontline teams. The Human Resources Advisor oversees the administration of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation, organizational development, and staff wellness. This is a permanent, full-time position.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Within an assigned portfolio, the HR Advisor will:

- Build solid relationships and act as a trusted partner to people leaders and employees.
- Support full cycle recruitment and selection - develop job postings and descriptions, perform screenings, prepare and conduct interviews, and complete background checks.
- Make recommendations on salaries and increases in keeping with The Alex Compensation Policy.
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing support of performance evaluations.
- Support people leaders to drive strong culture and team engagement.
- Assist and advise Alex people leaders with human resource issues and questions.
- Support people leaders with employee relations issues including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions, and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Manage and oversee leave of absences.
- Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the People & Culture team to develop projects and strategic initiatives.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in HR.
- Proactively recommend initiatives to enhance the employee experience.
- Provide suggestions for creation and revision of human resources policies and procedures, along with other related documents, as needed.
- Represent the Human Resources team on an assigned committee.
- Assist with the annual delivery of employee engagement surveys throughout the organization.
- Assist with the organization’s annual submission to be recognized as a top employer in Alberta.
- Regularly attend staff meetings and present content from assigned portfolio.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or equivalent.
- One to three years of progressive experience in a Human Resource or related position is preferred; new graduates will also be considered.
- CPHR designation or working towards obtaining is preferred.
- Demonstrated relationship management skills along with leading, planning and executing strategic HR initiatives.
- Proficiency using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience using an HRIS or Applicant Tracking System is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of human resource administration best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Capacity to empathize with team member’s experiences.
- Demonstrated understanding of diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
- Ability to interpret legislation (Alberta Employment Standards and Alberta Human Rights Act) and company policies and provide relevant advice.
- Proven track record of delivering results by demonstrating an ability to take independent action.
- Excellent organization skills with high attention to detail.
- High level of interpersonal skills and integrity; solid team player.
- Ability to influence and maintain collaborative partnerships.
- Strong project management skills.
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action.

**Work Environment and Hours**:

- 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week)
- Standard hours 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Friday, some flexibility in schedule and location is available.
- Althgugh rare, some weekends and evenings may be required.
- Continuous periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up/down stairwells).
