**Location**: Cook Street Village Activity Centre, 1-380 Cook Street, Victoria BC

**Overview**: As a Board Member of the Cook Street Village Activity Centre, you will play a vital role in steering the organization towards fulfilling its mission and meeting the needs of the community it serves. This volunteer position requires dedication, active participation, and a commitment to upholding the values and objectives of the organization.

**Responsibilities**:

- **Understanding and Advocacy**:

- Familiarize yourself with the organization's mission, programs, policies, and needs.
- Serve as an advocate and ambassador for the organization within the community.
- **Meeting Preparation and Participation**:

- Review meeting agendas and supporting documentation in advance.
- Actively participate in board meetings, providing insights and thoughtful contributions.
- **Financial Oversight and Governance**:

- Understand and analyze financial statements and board materials.
- Uphold fiduciary responsibilities and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- **Strategic Planning and Policy Development**:

- Contribute to the development of policies and strategic plans.
- Participate in evaluating business operations and executive performance.
- **Committee Engagement**:

- Fully participate in one or more committees as assigned.
- **Community Engagement**:

- Leverage connections and resources to secure financial support and partnerships.
- Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the community served by the organization.
- **Confidentiality and Respect**:

- Maintain confidentiality regarding internal organizational affairs.
- Respect the diverse experiences and voices represented within the organization and community.
- **Conduct and Communication**:

- Interact with fellow board members professionally and respectfully.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere during board meetings and interactions.
- Listen actively and considerately to differing viewpoints and perspectives.
- Communicate openly and transparently, fostering trust and cooperation among board members.
- Resolve conflicts constructively and diplomatically, prioritizing the organization's best interests.

**Requirements**:

- **Experience and Skills**:

- Financial management experience.
- Leadership skills with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Understanding of the barriers faced by individuals over the age of 50.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn to use Google Docs for documentation and collaboration.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Non-profit management experience
- Human Resources
- Legal expertise highly sought

**Commitment**: As a voluntary position, Board Members are expected to commit to attending regular board meetings, participating actively in discussions, and fulfilling assigned duties as outlined above. Meetings are typically scheduled on Tuesday mornings.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $17.00-$18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 per week

Ability to Commute:
