Job Summary

Organizational Status
The Exhibit Research & Development Manager reports directly to the Museum Director and works closely with other museum staff, researchers, and community partners. This role also collaborates with the Museum Gallery Technician to integrate educational content with exhibit maintenance and visitor engagement activities.

Work Performed
- Lead in the design of new exhibits and the development of innovative gallery presentation techniques using advanced design software like Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp or Blender.
- Develop exhibit proposals and interpretive plans for new exhibitions, ensuring they are engaging and educationally impactful.
- Write interpretive content for exhibits, gallery signage, and other projects, enriching visitor understanding and engagement.
- Develop multimedia content for exhibits, including creating and implementing interactive digital panels, graphic designs, audio, and video elements.
- Analyze visitor engagement and exhibit performance, developing new strategies for improving exhibit interactivity and educational impact.
- Conduct research, both theoretical and scientific, for exhibit proposals and interpretive content, ensuring content accuracy and relevance.
- Research, coordinate, and perform regular field sampling and analysis for exhibit development, gathering real-world data to inform exhibit content.
- Coordinate meetings with community partners and/or researchers who consult on exhibition content or provide venues for traveling exhibits, enhancing the museum's network and collaborative opportunities.
- Consult with Indigenous community partners to align museum exhibits with community needs/incorporate Indigenous knowledge into exhibits in a culturally informed and respectful manner.
- Lead in the curation of exhibits that highlight the diversity of minerals in the museum’s collection and their relevance to different historical/cultural contexts.
- Develop interpretive narratives for exhibits that focus on the scientific, cultural, and historical aspects of minerals, emphasizing their global significance.
- Develop educational programs that use the mineral collection, focusing on interactive and participatory learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
- Develop and implement inclusive education strategies that reflect diverse cultural perspectives, particularly Indigenous and underrepresented communities.
- Responsible for the organization and facilitation of workshops on anticolonial practices and inclusivity for museum staff and volunteers to enhance their understanding and ability to deliver culturally competent educational content.
- Create and curate digital content and virtual learning experiences that expand access to the museum’s educational resources, particularly for remote and underserved communities.
- Conduct regular assessments of the educational impact of exhibits and programs on various demographic groups to ensure alignment with anticolonial and inclusive educational practices.
- Research, develop and manage a series of public talks and community forums that address the intersection of Earth sciences with societal issues, aiming to foster dialogue and increase public engagement.
