Outreach and Communications Coordinator

Are you interested in working towards an inclusive net zero future while actively promoting equity and reconciliation? The Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation, and Impact Fund (HCi3) is looking for an **Outreach and Communications Coordinator **to join our small and dynamic team. At HCi3, we are committed to investing in a net-zero Halifax/Kjipuktuk for everyone, including communities that have historically faced environmental injustice and systemic racism. As a team member, you will have the opportunity to drive climate action, build partnerships, promote equity and reconciliation, and make strategic grants and investments with an intentional focus on addressing systemic racism and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
**About HCi3**
The Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation, and Impact (HCi3) Fund supports carbon reduction initiatives in the Halifax/Kjipuktuk region through a collaborative and “multi-solving” approach. We’re looking at how we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by financing scalable solutions, building community and National climate capacity, supporting equity, contributing to reconciliation, and providing other community and environmental benefits.
HCi3 was established in 2020 as one of seven Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) centers. We are a subsidiary of EfficiencyOne, a national leader in the design and delivery of resource efficiency programs and services. HCi3 draws on the national expertise of the LC3 network and the experience of EfficiencyOne to drive innovation and share knowledge locally and nationally.
**About the Role**
- Responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies that center the voices and experiences of Black, Indigenous, racialized, and marginalized communities, including blog posts, social media, and press releases.
- Responsible for establishing and nurturing authentic relationships with under-represented and Indigenous communities to encourage their active and meaningful participation in HCi3's programs and other climate action initiatives.
- Responsible for supporting the integration of equity and reconciliation principles into HCi3's programs and communications to ensure that we are actively fighting against systemic racism and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Responsible for providing crucial administrative support to the HCi3 team, including implementing the grant program, supporting our impact investing activities, and organizing/partnering to plan and host events and workshops.
- The coordinator may also conduct research into innovative climate financing solutions through an equity lens.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
**What Will Help You Succeed?**
- There are no specific educational qualifications for this job. We recognize people take different paths in life and gain experience and skills in different ways.
- Passion for taking climate action.
- Interest in advancing equity and reconciliation.
- Experience working and building trust with marginalized and under-represented communities, including Indigenous/Aboriginal peoples of Canada and/or African Nova Scotian communities.
- Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and digital (bonus if you have video editing or graphic design talents)
- Experience and interest in managing and growing social media accounts.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong people skills and emotional intelligence - you like building relationships
- Self-motivation and a positive, can-do attitude
- Willingness to take on duties as needed. We’re a small team, so we all do a bit of everything.
- An eagerness to learn and contribute as a team player.
**Location/hours**: HRM. Hybrid or primarily work-from-home arrangement is possible, but this job will involve engaging with people around the city so you’ll need to be available for in-person meetings and events as necessary. Having your own mode of transportation is not necessary. If you choose to work in the office, where we periodically have team meetings, our base is at EfficiencyOne’s office in Burnside.
