**Position**

Working within the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI)’s Geospatial Centre, the Lidar and Geospatial Data Specialist is responsible for lidar data processing and interpretation, delineation, mapping of human footprint from satellite imagery and Geographic Information System (GIS) data. The Lidar and Geospatial Data Specialist will implement geospatial data processing in big data environments, supervise staff, and oversee data quality assurance and control processes.

**Duties**
- Provide leadership and expertise related to the development, planning, and implementation of lidar data processing programs.
- Supervise, hire, and train a team of up to approximately 10 GIS Technicians.
- Develop and coordinate new, complex, and interdependent work plans related to large-scale lidar data processing and analysis, tracking progress and providing regular oral and written status updates (e.g., ClickUp).
- Identify issues, lead problem-solving, and develop cutting edge approaches to streamline and optimize workflows, to ensure each activity is as efficient as possible.
- Ensure successful completion of components of project work plans on time through tracking deliverables and interdependencies, breaking down and prioritizing tasks, and ensuring open lines of communication across project teams.
- Lead development of Standard Operating Procedures and metadata documents for new lidar data workflows.
- Work independently as well as with ABMI senior leadership, ABMI staff, and project collaborators to conduct necessary project work.
- Produce provincial-scale, publicly available lidar datasets assembled from a variety of different data sources, each requiring attention to detail to produce consistent products.
- Work on project teams, such as the Vegetation Regeneration Mapping project team, that includes staff at multiple levels across multiple ABMI centres.
- Work independently to execute data processing workflows and activities.
- Create and reviews lidar data collection flight plans, uploading data to servers and/or cloud computing environments and classifying data.
- Conduct and coordinate lidar processing, error identification, and correction.
- Lead and undertake final data quality assurance and quality control.
- Interpret and map human footprint from satellite imagery, GIS, and lidar data layers.
- Summarize and export GIS information for analyses and distributing output information.
- Facilitate direct and indirect understanding of ABMI lidar data and products with scientists, directors, the public, and ABMI stakeholders.
- Evaluate and communicate strengths and limitations of data products.
- Develop innovative approaches to automate and streamline reporting tasks.
- Contribute to writing methods and results for project reports.
- Develop and delivers ABMI presentations and communication materials, communicating project outcomes in written and oral form to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Post-Secondary Diploma in GIS, remote sensing, geography, natural science, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience with geospatial data processing and analysis, including lidar data.
