Forestry Planner

  • Support the ATCO Forestry Technology Modernization Initiatives program;
  • Assist in the investigation into new technologies that can be used to improve vegetation management planning. This may require participation in the development of business proposals and/or business integration documentation;
  • Review and qualitycontrol (QC) data received from LIDAR acquisition projects and other projects as needed;
  • Collaborate on the setup of pilot projects to explore new technologies;
  • Prepare data for vegetation management optimization projects;
  • Review and QC data to ensure readiness for operational field execution;
  • Analyze geospatial data and other large datasets in a variety of formats;
  • Provide recommendations for projects ensuring that forestry, biological, and environmental factors are taken into consideration;
  • Provide support for data management software platforms;
  • Interact with Senior Planners and the team Supervisor to maintain and update vegetation management software system.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Forestry or Environmental Sciences from a recognized postsecondary institute;
  • Experience working on remote sensing projects is preferred;
  • Proficient in data analysis;
  • Comfort with GIS software and GPS technology for operational use;
  • Well versed in database management, and software system support in a forestry or electric utility environment is beneficial;
  • A keen desire to learn vegetation management business processes
  • An eagerness to develop skills in budget development, planning and financial management and to become proficient in these functions over time;
  • A growth mindset where challenges are embraced and learning is ongoing
  • Confirmed ability to work optimally in a multifaceted environment while meeting multiple demands and priorities;
  • Acute technical writing and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to overcome challenges, and the ability to thrive while working independently; and
  • Ability to establish meaningful, collaborative working relationships that resonate across various teams and work groups.
