Role:


Alberta Environment and Protected Areas is transforming its environmental regulatory system to improve regulatory efficiency, oversight and stewardship of Alberta's natural resources.

This strategic transformation involves implementing a new regulatory assurance framework that ensures environmental regulatory assurance and establishes guiding principles and enabling components.

The comprehensive regulatory approach is risk informed, data driven, outcomes focused and integrated across the _Water Act, Public Lands Act and Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act_.

The Regulatory Data Specialist is responsible for the validation, integration, mobilization and stewardship of regulatory data.


In this role, the incumbent will ensure regulatory data is well-governed, highly reliable and effective in meeting business and regulatory needs, readily accessible and trusted.


The Regulatory Data Specialist is frequently called upon to provide standard and custom information products, training, advice and consultative services.

In this role, the incumbent will participate in cross-ministry committees, initiatives and projects designed to improve the process as well as the underlying systems and supporting technical infrastructure as well as work closely with information technology (IT) service providers to maintain, improve and replace existing systems.


The Regulatory Data Specialist may be a person with computing science, information management experience with the ability to learn about the regulatory environment and/or a person with experience in the environmental regulatory system, with a strong ability to work with data.


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and/or support datafocused tasks to assist in the successful development of the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS).
  • Support an initiative to transport environmental data from existing IT systems to new platforms including a data management platform and a geospatial platform.
  • Identify trends and inconsistencies in environmental regulatory data, reports and processes.
  • Build an understanding of environmental regulatory data and IT systems by training and working with experts who work with regulatory environmental data.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Twoyear technical Diploma in science, computing science, information management or a related field, plus a minimum of 6 years of related experience.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Additional assets:

  • Experience with environmental regulatory data and/or systems
  • Experience with Power BI and Excel
