**Department summary**

The Education Student Services (ESS) unit in the Faculty of Education is a dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential. The Placement Coordinator position supports the Team Lead, Field Experience, and the Associate Dean - Undergraduate Programs and Services. The Placement Coordinators work closely with a team of professional teachers, current and retired, who serve within the unit as Field Experience Associates (FEAs). The Faculty of Education has approximately 3,000 current students.

**Position summary**

The position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the EDFX database which is used to facilitate and record approximately 2000 student teaching placements made each year for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. As part of the Field Experiences functional area within Education Student Services (ESS) the incumbent utilizes the EDFX database to record information related to students, University Facilitators, schools, and school districts. Student program needs are matched to school information to create student teaching placements. The placement area is primarily Edmonton & Greater Edmonton with approximately 200 placements made and coordinated in Regional Districts. The incumbent is also responsible for initiating, and processing honoraria payments made to Collaborative University Facilitators.

The Placement Coordinator performs timetabling, registration duties, processing of assessments, coordination of grade entry and also maintains lists for placement communication and tracking purposes. The position is also responsible for providing statistical report information regarding placements to senior Faculty of Education administrative staff. The position is multifaceted and requires such skills as organization, an ability to work independently, accuracy, dependability, and a keen attention to details, in addition to a need to be a strong team player.

**Duties**
- Maintains a current and complete database of all Education undergraduate students enrolled in a Field Experience course, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all data entry and transfer into the EDFX database
- Responsible for securing and assigning student teacher field experience placements that fit students' specific degree and teacher certification requirements
- Matches each student placement to the list of available mentor teachers and schools following specific guidelines and restrictions
- Arranges alternate placements if conflicts occur or problems develop after the students' initial placement
- Monitors the receipt of Student Teacher Evaluation forms to ensure all evaluations are complete and received from Mentor Teachers and records all final grades
- Works closely with other field experiences staff in recruiting teachers to participate in the field experiences program as a Mentor Teacher
- Participates in the development and distribution of electronic information for mentor teachers and university facilitators, school administrators, and faculty staff
- Generates reports on a number of variables related to field experience placements for the Dean, the Alberta Teachers' Association, provincial committees and senior administrative staff
- Provides statistical report information regarding placements to senior Faculty of Education administrative staff
- Supports the maintenance of the Field Experiences web site
- Assists in establishing a timetable for administrative activities for scheduling student teaching placements and provides back-up assistance to other positions in the Education Student Services office
- Performs general clerical and administrative support and other related duties, including assisting with special projects and events, as required
- Serves as back up for the Student Services Assistant and provides front line, primary advising as required

**Qualifications**
- Minimum 2-year Diploma; Post-Secondary degree in a relevant area is an asset (BEd)
- Experience in a post-secondary environment, particularly with placement of students in experiential learning environments, is an asset
