**Main Purpose and Function**

This position will co-report to the Planner II - Street Furniture Contract and Planner II - Engagement, Evaluation, and Placemaking. Under their guidance, the Planning Analyst will support work in two major project areas - creation of a new Street Furniture Contract and facilitating community participation in the shaping of public spaces. The Planning Analyst will conduct research and develop tools and processes to support the renewal of the City’s Street Furniture Contract and, creation and enhancement of public space in Vancouver. This position is responsible for research, data collection, analysis, and creation of graphics and content to support the development of the new contract terms, as well as public space engagement, partnerships, and projects. The Planning Analyst will develop internal and public-facing materials and represent the Street Activities branch in meetings and events. This position will also work closely with other teams across Engineering, Planning, Finance, Legal, City Manager’s Office and Arts, Culture & Community Services.

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**
- Researches, evaluates, and prepares content to support the street furniture contract development and planning process for use in reports, presentations, public notifications, engagement materials, websites, and social media platforms.
- Supports the development of programs and monitoring approaches related to public space programming and activations, and other placemaking activities by carrying out engagement, carrying out on-site and data analysis, supporting the development of tools and mapping, and may assign or check work of one or more subordinates.
- Generates informational and analytical graphic materials such as diagrams, tables, and maps for internal and public staff presentations, reports, and policy documents; uses Creative Cloud for illustrative purposes.
- Organizes, participates in, and facilitates meetings and engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders, and the public, including at public meetings, and prepares notes resulting from these meetings.
- Responds tactfully to technical, written, or oral enquiries from other departments and the public.
- Coordinates with other community partners and committees to support creating the street furniture contract, and may at times supervise the work of junior engineering/planning assistants and other staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
Education and Experience:

- A university degree with related professional experience; or a post-graduate degree in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, environmental design, or communications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Demonstrated passion for public spaces and public life (i.e. past work experience, authored articles, volunteer work, leading tours, presentations, promotion).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the local public space issues related to best practices in the fields of engineering, planning, landscape architecture, or similar discipline.
- Familiarity with the City’s policies, processes, and regulations pertaining to its street system, transportation, and public space.
- Experience with leading development of communication and graphic materials for public space policy and design work or similar fields within community/regional planning.
- Ability to conduct research, analyzing outputs, and communicating results clearly to audiences of varying technical expertise.
- Strong interpersonal and graphical skills in communicating effectively across multiple stakeholders, establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with the public, other employees, other agencies, and officials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
