**Main Purpose & Function**

The Planning Analyst provides a range of technical, analytical and graphic support to the Community Planning Division and primarily assists the Implementation Group; Long-Range & Strategic Planning. The Planning Analyst will work on a team that focuses on the implementation of community and area plans, including providing policy advice and coordinating the delivery of public benefits, public realm improvements and infrastructure. The main responsibilities of the position include research, analysis, mapping, preparation of reports, and preparing communication materials for residents and other community stakeholders. This position will require working effectively with colleagues from other departments.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**

The Planning Analyst will provide a range of professional and technical services as part of the Implementation Group in Community Planning.

The Analyst plays a key role in:

- Developing and conducting in-depth analyses on topics related to land use and community planning, in order to support the implementation of several community and area plans, with an initial focus on the Granville Street Planning Program.
- Research and analysis, including outreach to other departments, to support the delivery of public benefits, including public realm improvements.
- Writing reports and technical papers for senior staff in PDS and other departments
- Organizing and facilitating engagement processes with residents and other community stakeholders.
- Developing informational and graphic materials for public open houses, workshops and for inclusion in Council reports.
- Summarizing public consultation processes and survey results for senior staff and the public, in order to inform policy discussions.
- Maintaining and updating websites and helping coordinate social media outreach.
- Responsibilities may also include project scoping and assisting senior staff in the preparation of planning policy, zoning, and guidelines.

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- University degree in Planning with some professional planning experience
- A related university degree with experience related closely to the duties involved
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in Rezoning or Development Planning is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Sound research and analytical abilities and experience in the technical aspects of planning work.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues within PDS and other departments
- Proven ability to self-manage workload and meet time demands
- Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills, as well as the ability to communicate with the public in person and over the phone.
- Knowledge of City of Vancouver community and other area plans, as well as zoning and land-use regulations is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS and Adobe Creative Suite is required, and a working knowledge of 3D modeling software (e.g., Sketchup) is an asset.
