**Position Title**
- Library Assistant, Print & Multimedia Resources
**Position Summary**
- The Library Assistant, Print and Multimedia Resources is part of a larger team of service providers in the Student Success Division that delivers welcoming, responsive, and proactive library service, both in person and virtually, to RDP students, faculty and staff and the Central Alberta community.
- Reporting to the Library Coordinator, the incumbent’s main responsibilities include: the acquisition, cataloguing and maintenance of library resources in a variety of formats, and quality control of catalogue records. Additional responsibilities may include performing physical processing, performing priority processing and troubleshooting, maintaining records, and minor repairs of materials.
- This position exists in a cross-trained learner-centered environment which provides resources, technology and support for creation, collaboration, and lifelong learning. The integrated service model requires all employees to use strong communication, teaching, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. to facilitate access to services, direct enquiries appropriately and engage students in their learning.

**Position Responsibilities**
**Acquisition of Library Materials and Resources**
- Maintains a strong knowledge of Library acquisition tools, vendors, and procedures for ordering
- Creates purchase orders based on yearly costs for different vendors and monitors budgets for fund availability
- Investigates pricing, availability and secures appropriate rights (public performance, copyright) and / or licenses and access setup requirements, as required
- Liaises with and selects appropriate vendors/suppliers for electronic, and print or physical library resources and creating access for digital resources
- Inputs order information into the Integrated Library System (ILS), creating catalogue records and purchase orders, as necessary, using the appropriate tools and checks for current titles and duplication of orders
- Monitors quality of vendor provided cataloguing records and processing, and reporting problems to appropriate staff member or vendor
- Receives materials and/or licenses, reconciling invoices and recording the receipt of materials into relevant documents, databases and/or library systems as required
- Codes and forwards invoices to Finance as appropriate
- Reconciles purchase card statements and submits them
- Follows up on resources that have not been received
- Prepares materials for cataloguing and processing
- Maintains files for library materials on order and correspondence related to the acquisitions of library materials and/or licenses
**Catalogue and Holdings Maintenance**
- Supports and provides guidance to the Library Assistants who perform copy cataloging duties
- Updates bibliographic and related records and modifying records as necessary to reflect and ensure current library holdings are searchable and accessible in the NEOS catalogue and discovery system
- Corresponds with vendors, consortia partners and other libraries regarding catalogue records as appropriate and documenting and communicating problems with vendor-supplied records
- Investigates inquiries from RDP faculty and library staff regarding resource issues and availability originating from RDP faculty
- Analyzes damaged items to determine repairs and corrections
**Library Service Desk Support**
- Determines patron needs: answering questions and directing enquiries - in person or virtually - to other staff or areas of the Division of Student Success, RDP services or other areas on campus as appropriate
- Orients patrons to the library’s online presence, services and spaces located within the library, and providing services that respond to the needs of patrons with disabilities (e.g. assist at the lower desk, use assistive technology etc.)
- Uses the Integrated Library System (ILS) to create or update memberships, place holds, check-out, renew, or discharge library materials/equipment and fill NEOS holds and/or process Interlibrary Loans (ILL)
- Communicates policies and procedures, informing patrons of account or item issues, and resolving or escalating patron account issues to the Library Coordinator as required
- Handles and processes cash, debit and credit payments for fines, lost book charges or, loading money onto iCards
- Records patron transactions and headcounts
- Reports incidents, scheduling, and technology or facilities issues in a timely manner to Library Coordinator.
