This position is eligible to work remotely on a part-time basis.

**Main Function**: Responsible for the development, coordination and evaluation of all meetings, conventions, and sport tourism attraction initiatives within the City of Greater Sudbury, involving the identification and marketing of opportunities in order to increase the profile of the community.

**Characteristic Duties**: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Tourism and Culture.

1. Act as principal liaison for local and external meeting, convention and sport tourism clients that are interested in CGS for their event planning needs and provide leadership, advice, and assistance to maximize their chances of success.
2. Market Sudbury at the local, regional, provincial, national, and international levels with event hosting organizations.
3. Work with Manager, Tourism and Culture, staff, the Tourism Development Committee of the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) and stakeholders to secure media buys and develop marketing collateral, using resources effectively and efficiently.
4. Assist in the identification, initiation and implementation of meeting, convention, and sport tourism development opportunities.
5. Oversee and track progress, maintaining records to evaluate the success of sports tourism initiatives, projects, and events.
6. Act as an ambassador of Sudbury Tourism and CGS including formal presentation of programs and capabilities as a keynote or invited speaker or panel member to relevant events while providing information on event statistics and outcomes.
7. Prepare an annual Sport Tourism/ Event Hosting Plan (includes an outreach and engagement plan) related to development initiatives with local community sport groups, bid opportunities, new areas of initiative and competitive assessments related to other communities; related budget and key performance indicators to be developed in consultation with the Tourism Development Committee of the GSDC.
8. Work continuously with regional, national, and provincial sport organizations, event sponsor, tournament operators and senior government initiatives to undertake ongoing research into the trends, demographics and other impacts in the meetings, conventions, and sport tourism sectors.
9. Provide guidance to individuals, groups and/or local organizations involved in the meetings, conventions and sport tourism sectors that require assistance in working with the various departments of CGS.
10. Achieve quality customer outcomes in response to established performance measurement targets and customer feedback.
11. Assist in the marketing of CGS owned facilities and market other facilities such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions within community boundaries; regularly review and update facility inventory to support efforts.
12. Act as City’s representative in negotiations with events rights’ holders.
13. Provide advice and information to event organizers and events rights’ holders on matters pertaining to event hosting projects and event development opportunities.
14. Assist clients in understanding procedures and by-laws, official plans, and other legislative policies to ensure a timely and efficient approach to business development in CGS.
15. Assist in conducting negotiations with representatives of business, industry, and government to influence and facilitate the hosting of events within CGS.
16. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of marketing techniques and procedures to maximize the meeting, convention, and sport opportunities of CGS.
17. Review and analyse event bids (with a bid evaluation committee) and business proposals to assess their viability and potential benefit to CGS and the sector.
18. Assist with the preparation of an annual budget as applicable and assist with the monthly account tracking to ensure project is on track and within budget.
19. Act as Management’s Representative in the Grievance Procedure in accordance with any respective Collective Bargaining Agreement.
20. Hire, supervise, promote, and recommend discharge of personnel, conduct performance appraisals, salary reviews and discipline in accordance with appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or CGS Policies.
21. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
22. Perform other related duties as required.
