**Role**:
The Policy Analyst supports the Policy and Practice Supports Unit, the Policy, Practice, and Program Development Branch, and the Child Intervention Division in promoting and ensuring quality in child protection and intervention across the province. This position plays a key role in child protection and intervention policy and program development and implementation based on best practices, and promotes the attainment of good outcomes for children and families. The position leads policy and legislative projects and initiatives that set practice and program direction, and makes recommendations to management, senior management, and the Deputy Minister and Minister based on specialized program knowledge and skills. This position also functions as a strategic resource person for the unit, branch, and division by supporting issues identification, options development, and preparation of policy decision materials that are aligned with current policy, practice and organizational and program readiness. The work that this position performs will inform policy, programs, and services that reflect child protection and intervention legislation, emerging trends, and directions and best practices.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

- Lead special projects and initiatives, including policy and legislative amendments, that contribute to enhanced quality of programs and services.
- Chair working groups/committees and coordinate and assign work resulting from working group/committee work.
- Identify issues and trends that lead to possible changes to practice, policy, programs, and legislation.
- Consult and liaise with a variety of stakeholders within and outside the branch, division, department, and government.
- Explore and analyze options and make recommendations regarding policy, practice, program, legislative, and systemic issues.
- Conduct research and write briefing notes, position papers, proposals and correspondence for management, senior management, and the Deputy Minister and Minister related to child protection and intervention.
- Ensure that timely and regular information is provided to the ED/ADM/DM/Minister on sensitive issues.

**Qualifications**:
The successful applicant will have:

- A University degree in a related field of public administration, public policy, political science or the social sciences.
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible related experience in conducting policy or legislative research, analysis and development, and program and project planning and management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate and synthesize information in a rapidly changing environment.
- Experience working with multiple internal and/or external stakeholders to develop shared understanding and outcomes, including facilitation, consultation, consensus-building, and conflict management.
- Strong political acumen and organizational awareness.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive, and take initiative.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
