Our Client is looking for a Fleet Safety and Compliance Officer to join their growing team. As a Fleet Safety and Compliance Officer, this role will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing training and development programs aimed at growing the skills and abilities of our Driving Team. In addition, this person will play a key part in the orientation of new Drivers into the organization and implementation and governance of legislative requirements in alignment with company policy. Ultimately, you will work closely with Drivers and Management to ensure operations run smoothly, vehicles are maintained based on our standards, and that all compliance requirements are met across the company's divisions.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

What you will be doing:

- Evaluates and trains drivers (i.e. employee and agency drivers) on the safe operation of equipment, including pre and post trip inspection; develops and maintains driver scorecard(s); assists with annual reviews for drivers.
- Keep up to date and make recommendations to manager(s) for driver training and perform follow ups with drivers as required.
- Act as a point of contact for driver tracking systems and support team members as required to ensure enhanced usage.
- Conduct road evaluations for drivers to ensure they are a competent drivers.
- Manage internal compliance department to develop, implement and maintain formal system processes that Monitor Driver Qualification procedures including the components to ensure proper compliance with Company regulations and policies
- Perform regular spot checks on drivers and their paperwork for completeness and accuracy.
- Manage the review process of all driver violations regarding CSA and Company Policies.
- Identify training needs, conduct proactive safety-related training and develop necessary discipline for compliance-related violations.
- Serve as a liaison to law enforcement & regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for adherence to Driver Hours of Service, ELD Logs, Driver Files.
- Work with Managers to develop, coordinate, and facilitate regular scheduled driver meetings.
- Oversee the fleet and driver files for compliance and ensure all vehicles have up to date documentation on-board, (IE: Ownership, insurance, plates, company specific driver resource binder etc.).
- Actively liaise with Management to ensure equipment safe operation.
- Investigate and report on accidents, incidents and non-conformances and making recommendations for corrective action.
- Capable to step in and cover Site Supervisor roles when needed.
- Work with Managers to improve overall supplier relationships and coordinate positive changes as needed to enhance overall operation and improve expenses.
- Take an active role with the company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Complete special projects and annual objectives as assigned.

What we are looking for
- Strong knowledge of Canadian trucking regulations including ELD requirements, OHSA, WHMIS, TDG & hazmat and other workplace H&S regulations.
- **3+ years’** experience in Safety & Compliance management in the transportation industry.
- **Successful completion of the “Ontario Driving Instructor Course” would be an asse**t
- **Completion of part 1 and 2 of safety certification for Joint Health and Safety would be an asse**t.
- Experience working with government agencies such as MTO
- Knowledge of safety programs that support a safety first culture.
- Self
- directed with the ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and focused manner.
- Experience with regulatory audits is an asset.
- Excellent coaching, interpersonal, presentational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Computer literate in a Microsoft Windows environment and comfortable with new software and interfaces.
- Analytical and record keeping skills with the ability to gather detail, and provide recommendations.
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Highly organized and communicative - must be able to interact effectively at all levels of management with a professional demeanor and appearance.
- **Must have a valid full Ontario G license and AZ license.**
