Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria presented by Scotiabank is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Volunteer Coordinator to join our team

The Tour de Victoria (TDV) is a cycling event in Victoria, BC that brings 2,500 cyclist together to experience world-class cycling routes, breathtaking scenery, and celebrate the beauty of cycling. Since the Tour’s inception in 2011, more than 2,000 volunteers have become the force that produces one of the best-known cycling events in North America. The 13th annual event will be held on Saturday August 17, 2024.

The Tour de Victoria’s vision is to introduce, promote and encourage cycling to people of all ages and fitness levels, and showcase Victoria as the Cycling capital of Canada. The combination of world class cycling roads, incredible volunteers and professional organization all come together to create an amazing experience. Riders of all fitness levels and all ages take part in the ride by choosing one of eight distances, including a kids ride, and we welcome all types of bicycles, including ebikes.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work under the mentorship of our Volunteer Director to recruit and coordinate our team of 300 volunteers to help cyclists enjoy a beautiful day on their bikes. Volunteer positions include Ride Marshals, Aid Stations, Start/Finish Line, Beer Garden, Event Set-up, and Ride Ambassadors, to name a few

The Volunteer Coordinator should have a love for community events, an enthusiastic can-do attitude, excellent organizational skills, and be able to build relationships with the Tour de Victoria community. **Responsibilities**
- Work under the mentorship of our Volunteer Director, who has managed our Volunteers since the first year of the Tour de Victoria, who will provide training on the role and support with recruitment.
- Collaboratively develop and update job descriptions for various roles.
- Update and manage the online volunteer registration system.
- Recruit volunteers and cultivate relationships with local businesses, schools, and community groups to expand the volunteer network.
- Work with event staff to create volunteer documents and ensure volunteers have all the tools needed to perform their roles.
- Communicate schedules and detailed information to the volunteers.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and recognition to volunteers.
- Provide support to the Volunteer Captains that lead teams of volunteers.
- Coordinate and run the Volunteer Captain meetings.
- Coordinate and run the Volunteer Training sessions, including coordinating space, equipment, materials, etc.
- Coordinate the distribution of Volunteer t-shirts and Volunteer Captain apparel.
- Coordinate the attendance of our Volunteer Captains at the post-event celebration dinner (held in September).

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Fantastic interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with enthusiasm, empathy and professionalism.
- Highly organized and an astute attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with little or no supervision.
- Demonstrated ability of long-term relationship building and stewardship of volunteers.
- High level of professionalism and respect for confidentiality and sensitive information.
- Highly resourceful with an ability to think creatively and strategically with excellent judgment and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Very proficient working with Google Docs and Google Sheets, and the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience coordinating events is an asset.

**Compensation & Conditions**
- This position is a 4 month contract running from May 15 - September 15, 2024.
- Compensation for this position is $7,500, plus applicable GST.
- Hours likely range from 5 - 15 hours per week and can be performed on your own schedule. There will be an increase in August approaching the event. The week of the event will require a significant contribution (greater than 40 hours).
- While the majority of the work for this role can be done remotely, the Volunteer Coordinator needs to live in Greater Victoria, BC. Being connected to the local community will greatly assist your ability to recruit volunteers.
- As we approach the event, there will be days that attendance at the Tour de Victoria Headquarters (TDV HQ), located in Vic West, and event locations will be mandatory. Some of these will be evenings and weekends and will include:
