**Job Title: Research Lead (Youville Residential School Truthing Initiative)**

The Research - Lead will collaborate and work under the direction of the St. Albert Metis Local 1904 - Youville Residential School Truthing Initiative Sub-Committee. The Research Lead will be expected to manage and guide the research assistants and work collaboratively with the project coordinator.

This work will contribute toward locating unmarked burial sites of former students who attended Youville Residential School within the City of St. Albert.

**Responsibilities**:
Establish and implement research procedures and protocol. good working relationships with Indigenous communities who were affected by Youville Residential School. This includes First Nations organizations, St. Albert Métis Local 1904 community members and other community stakeholders. The Research lead is responsible to work with the Archives and Records: National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation; Provincial and National archives; Roman Catholic Church and other archival records branches relating to Youville Residential School. The Research Lead must ensure the research is aligned with privacy and legislative requirements / regulations.

Establish and implement research procedures and protocol and develop and conduct initial analysis of historical data collected (qualitive and quantitative).

Review and analyze blueprints, aerial photographs, maps, and historical photos of locations of nearby cemeteries and document all findings for reporting purposes.

Ensure the research development and workflow planning phrases are implemented in a timely matter.

Establish and utilize a maintenance of a records system (log) which includes all the activity and procedures of the data collection, data cleaning analysis, and interpretation.

Ensure regularly the electronic and hard copy files are maintain and securely stored.

Implement regular training and guidance to the Research Assistants to carry out research related tasks. Organize and oversee regular team meetings to review /discuss research findings and the next steps. Prepare regular progress reports on all aspect of the research to the St. Albert Métis Local 1904 - Sub Committee and the stakeholders.

Assist with the preparation of progress / final reporting for the funding agencies. Assist in the preparation of research publications emanating from the community-based studies, to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals and/or other relevant forms of knowledge sharing (if required).

**Preferred Requirements**:
Experience working with Indigenous peoples is mandatory. Strong understanding of the history of residential schools is required. Bachelor’s degree one of the fields: History, Archival Studies, Library Sciences, Archeology or Native Studies, Indigenous History preferred but not mandatory. Minimum three - five years experience working in a research related field; is preferred.

Experience in working with historical documentation and the interpretation of said documentation would be an asset. Minimum 3-5 years experience in managing or supervising research related projects; is preferred.

Able to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment. Experience in technical writing and working with funding agency. Ability to prioritizes and implement workplans with tight timelines is important. Able to work a culturally sensitive work environment.

Computer proficiency. Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of the local.

Knowledge of Tri-council guidelines, and ethics around data keeping, confidentiality and data governance, as well as OCAP principles would be an asset.

Able to provide a clear criminal record check/ vulnerable sector check, upon hiring.

Class 5 license / vehicle; as travel will be required, and the office location has limited public transportation.

**Salary**: From $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 38 per week
