**Job Title: Research Assistant (Youville Residential School Truthing Initiative)**

The Research Assistant will take guidance and direction from the Research -Lead and the Youville Residential School Truthing Initiative Sub-Committee, under the St. Albert Metis Local 1904.

This position will provide assistance to the Research
- Lead with the ongoing research, development, and implementation of the Youville Residential School Truthing Initiative. The research work involves confidential in-dept research of historical school records, files, and documents from the Youville Residential School. The work environment is team oriented, and requires a strong understanding of confidentially and a good understanding of the Indigenous history, culture and way of life.

This work will contribute toward locating unmarked burial sites of former students who attended Youville Residential School within the City of St. Albert.

This is a part-time contract position.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Research - Lead the Research Assistant duties include:
Supporting communication and development of good working relationships with Indigenous communities who were affected by Youville Residential School. These include First Nations organizations, St. Albert Métis Local community members and other community stakeholders.

Implement Indigenous centred research protocols, utilizing Indigenous research principles in data gathering, analysis and knowledge translation of findings.

Collaborate and work as a part of a team. Locating and screening historical data, entering data into a database. Screening complex research articles, reviewing historical documentation. Analyzing confidential historical documents, records, and pictures.

Attend / participate in team and monthly meetings as required and other tasks research related, as needed.

**Preferred Requirements/Qualifications**:
Experience working with Indigenous peoples is mandatory. Strong understanding of the history of residential schools is required. Bachelor’s degree one of the fields: History, Archival Studies, Library Sciences, Archeology or Native Studies, Indigenous History preferred but not mandatory. Minimum two years experience working in a research related field; is preferred.

Able to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment being self-motivated. Ability to prioritize and implement workplans with tight timelines. Able to work a culturally sensitive work environment. Computer proficiency. Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of the local.

Knowledge of Tri-council guidelines, and ethics around data keeping, confidentiality and data governance, as well as OCAP principles would be an asset.

Able to provide a clear criminal record check/ vulnerable sector check, upon hiring.

Class 5 license / vehicle; as travel will be required, and the office location has limited public transportation.
