Reporting to KHSC Professional Practice Nursing, the Clinical Learning Specialist - Regional Critical Care Educator (CLS - RCCE) will work in collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital Network (TOH) to assess, plan, implement and evaluate critical care training education to Ontario East hospital sites. Utilizing a hub and spoke model, the KHSC CLS - RCCE will collaborate with the identified hospital sites to complete a baseline assessment of critical care nursing competencies and identify opportunities for additional education and training. With a strong foundation in Critical Care and thorough knowledge of resources, best practice guidelines, and standards of practice, this individual will collaborate with partner site hospitals to provide orientation, mentorship, support, and knowledge sharing through didactic programming, in-servicing, and creating connections.

On a regional level, the CLS - RCCE will partner with Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) to facilitate Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) of any initiatives developed to address critical care education gaps and standardization of curriculum where possible.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:
**Staff Development**:

- Promote professional development and life-long learning of regional nurses and RTs through practice, education, and leadership initiatives.
- Participate in novice critical care education, as well as continuing education to partner hospital sites, through mentorship and consultation/coordination with local clinical educators and critical care leadership.
- Develop tailored educational programs based on learning needs of recipient sites founded in nursing practice/professional standards for critical care.
- Plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate continuing education and in-servicing based upon practice updates and identified needs from the geographical region.
- Plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate critical care nursing and/or respiratory therapist onboarding and orientation processes.
- Regional awareness and knowledge sharing of didactic critical care training programs that support Practice Standards for Critical Care Nursing in Ontario (in-person and/or virtually.

**Coordination**:

- Provide consultative services to regional partners to enhance organizational critical care practice standards.
- Coordinate with TOH and recipient sites to update/enhance nurse and/or Respiratory Therapists professional resources.
- Coordinate with TOH to provide consultation to regional site colleagues on professional issues such as clinical practice, educational, and clinical onboarding issues.
- Facilitate access to critical care resources, best practice guidelines, and standards of practice, and act as a consultation resource for organizations within the regional catchment sites.

**Leadership**:

- Liaise and partner with the provincial planning lead at Critical Care Services of Ontario (CCSO) to participate in a provincial critical care educator network to help facilitate Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) related to new initiatives for point of care staff within the critical care system.
- Participates at the Local Critical Care Network (LCCN) to provide sub-regional and regional input and advocacy to improve critical care education gaps.

**Workplace Health & Safety/Workplace Conduct**:

- Adheres to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times.
- Takes corrective action to address a hazard where possible, otherwise reports the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor.
- Advises supervisor if they incur a workplace injury or illness; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act
- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KGH policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with the KGH Commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Baccalaureate in Nursing (Canadian equivalent)
- Master’s Degree in Nursing and/or related field required
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current certification in basic cardiac life support (BCLS)
- Certification in adult education or instructional design or equivalent of education and experience
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development
- Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Critical Care (preferred)
- Certification in change management (preferred)
- Critical Care Certificate from an accredited program (preferred)
- Current certification in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) (preferred)
