The Specialist assists the Manager in the coordination, review and negotiation of the research budgets and invoicing that impact the Cancer Clinical Research Team. Contributes to the development of financial practices and process in the Cancer Clinical Research Team.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Liaise with numerous internal and external contacts on a regular basis using various modes of communication in order to provide or receive information, resolve issues and promote good service recipient relations.
- Coordinates the review and signatures of initial and amended research contracts and budgets. This includes reviewing research study budgets and negotiates with external agencies and research sponsors, as required, to ensure all expenses and required budgetary language has been incorporated.
- Creates and maintains the Terms of Reference documents for research accounts, including any updates and notification for account closures, when applicable
- Prepares and maintains a billing schedule for research contracts, identifies and prepares potential billable amounts and monitors the accounts receivables and follow up with vendors, if applicable
- At study closeout, conducts a final review, audit and reconciliation of research contract/budgets, ensuring all payments have been received as per research contract/budget terms. Follows up issues as required.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Two (2) year post-secondary diploma in Finance or Business Administration
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in finance/accounting in a clinical research setting in the last 5 years.
- Knowledge and experience in finance/accounting in a clinical research setting is required.
- Experience with communicating with research study personnel at all levels is preferred.
- Accounting proficiency and knowledge (will be tested - minimum mark 70% required).
- Typing speed of 40 wpm (will be tested)
- Demonstrated understanding of an integrated accounting software environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to set priorities appropriately
- Ability to manage and complete work in a multi-task, multidisciplinary area, and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to act quickly to complete tasks within multiple and tight deadlines.
- Excellent problem solving and strong negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to client service and satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully
- Ability to provide high attention to detail to ensure accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
