**What’s the ask?**

Reporting to the VP, National Benefits Consulting, the Principal Consultant will provide superb services to large clients in National Benefits practice. Your goal — maintaining positive client relationships, helping clients know about all the Cowan Benefits Ltd. services, helping colleagues thrive and grow.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Specifically, the **Principal Consultant, National Benefits** will:

- Develop and maintain strong client, partner and carrier relationships
- Provide ongoing education, support and guidance to established client contacts;
- Develop and provide client specific ongoing competitive plan design and concepts;
- Work in collaboration with internal resources according to client needs;
- Identify Cowan Benefits Ltd. cross-selling opportunities within a block of clients;
- Take advantage of as many learning opportunities you can to know the employee benefits business;
- Contribute to peer group through Consultant meetings, and collaboration;
- Take initiative seeking out business development opportunities

**What does it take?**
- Completed post-secondary education or a combination of equivalent professional experience and training
- 5 + years of employee benefit industry experience
- 10 + years of experience with benefits
- Solid understanding of varied underwriting concepts, techniques and analysis
- Advanced knowledge of the flexible benefits space and excel in planning and implementing these types of strategic initiatives
- Proven track record in managing a complex block of business
- Client-focused, with partnership mentality
- Strong relationship-builder with exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate
- Can identify and drive opportunities to grow an existing book and cross-sell
- Capable of working remotely and/or from office base inter-changeably
- Individual Life Licensed (LLQP) or willing to obtain as quickly as possible (we will cover the tuition)
- Bonus points if you are working towards or have your CEBS designation
- Travel is required
- Maintenance of a valid driver's license
