**Join the City of Edmonton’s Reputation and Brand team and help tell the story of how the City is supporting and building strong relationships with Indigenous Peoples in Edmonton.**

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the City Manager’s Office and the Indigenous Relations Office to support initiatives related to Truth and Reconciliation, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA (MMIWG2S+) and Indigenous Framework files.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

- Create videos, take photos, and develop written and other visual materials that promote and inform key audiences about reconciliation initiatives/activities
- Build a suite of storytelling resources for use in materials (e.g. videos, photos, key messages)
- Support education, outreach, and engagement activities with Indigenous partner organizations and community groups by attending and profiling events and being an on-the-ground communications resource
- Develop written and visual (i.e digital) content for social media, webpages, reports, and more that captures and elevates the story of the impact of reconciliation efforts
- Build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and Elders, and sustain and maintain those relationships long-term
- Develop and implement integrated communications plans and informative material involving cross-functional and cross-departmental teams
- Draft and proof copy for news releases, public service service announcements, backgrounder documents, collateral materials, newsletters, advertising copy, key messages, speaking notes, council reports, annual reports and other communications materials
- Coordinate revision, approvals, production and distribution of communication materials (e.g., print, posters, leaflets, brochures, guides, newsletters and advertisements) and liaise with suppliers and other members of the Communications and Engagement department to ensure products meet objectives and specifications, on time and within budget
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Social Justice or a related discipline
- Minimum of two years of experience in a non-profit communications or corporate communications public relations, public affairs, public information role, or minimum of two years of experience working in Indigenous Relations or other Indigenous issues, ideally within a large complex organization
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with Indigenous communities and on reconciliation initiatives (such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls for Justice, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People)
- Experience capturing video/photo and using video/photo editing software
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn and understand protocols within Indigenous communities and ensure communication practices adhere to and respect cultural boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize deadlines, workloads, and client expectations
- Knowledge of different storytelling methods and tactics and how to elevate storytelling in communications materials
- Skilled in developing, fostering, and facilitating respectful, inclusive relationships with colleagues and all audiences
- Ability to work after hours or on-call as needed
- Lived experience and knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and worldview are assets
