The University of Alberta Faculty of Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Sciences, located in Edmonton, Alberta conducts a robust research program that provides solutions to global challenges in the areas of agriculture and food, the environment, community and individual well-being, and bioresource innovation.
**Position summary**
The Community Research Coordinator will be an integral position to move forward The Indigenous Healthy Life Trajectories Initiative (I-HeLTI) research project entitled: Hishuk-ish tsawalk (everything is one, everything is connected): Restoring healthy family systems in Indigenous communities. This is a collaborative project involving the Cree communities of Maskwacis (Alberta), communities in the Wood Buffalo region (Alberta), academics at the University of Alberta (Faculty of ALES and the School of Public Health), and the Alberta First Nations Information Governance Centre. There are also Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners in British Columbia.
Our team is looking for a Community-based Research Coordinator in Maskwacis, Alberta with a strong background in health.
Their main task will be to work with I-HeLTI Community Advisory, University of Alberta Research team, and other project partners to develop, implement, and evaluate community-based supports that help foster healthy pregnancies and families.
**Duties**
- Work with the research team and I-HeLTI Advisory Committee to develop all I-HeLTI Maskwacîs based research and knowledge translation activities. All activities are community-based and are culturally oriented.
- Coordinates and participate in all research activities: research plan development, participant recruitment, the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data; invite Elders to provide ceremony as necessary; Co-chair all research events with PI and research team.
- Plan community engagement activities and provide insight into Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing.
- Participate in Indigenous ceremony, provide protocol as necessary.
- Maintains files and filing system, ensuring ethical storage and confidentiality of any research materials and information so as to respect the principles of Ownership Control Access and Possession (OCAP)as described by the First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC).
- Conduct some administrative duties including submitting project expenses, scheduling meetings, and taking minutes in coordination with research admin support staff.
- Plan, co-ordinate and co-chair community meetings/workshops to feedback research finds to the community, arrange catering venues, and advertising (designing and distributing posters, mail out, radio). Planning the agenda, engaging speakers as necessary.
- Works with the Research Associate to successfully prepare and disseminate documents of pertinent research findings (including but not limited to: presentations for research results at team meetings, workshops, and conferences and writing applicable sections of research manuscripts for journal publications).
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum educational qualifications: University degree (or equivalent).
- Knowledge and experience of community-based participatory action and Indigenous research methods are essential.
- Experience working with Elders and other Indigenous community leaders are essential.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of implementing research in Maskwacîs Nations.
