If you’re a transformational educator looking to help shape the future of our Associate of Arts program, we want to hear from you.
**Note**: All permanent faculty have obligations outside of teaching to contribute to University initiatives (e.g. Committee work) and scholarly activities.
What you will do:
- Teaches undergraduate courses in specific program area, designing course materials, and facilitating learning that align with course, program and institutional learning outcomes and requirements.
- Provides students with timely, constructive feedback and individualized feedback and evaluates learning using a variety of effective assessment mechanisms.
- Provides students with timely information and guidance by holding regular office hours, responding to questions, and recommending additional program, campus, and institutional supports and services as appropriate.
- Engages students in authentic learning opportunities that enable them to demonstrate our Signature Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
- Implements inclusive teaching practices that anticipate, value, and respond to the diversity of learner needs and experiences.
- Supervises and mentors’ students on research projects, where applicable.
- Engages in reflective practice and on-going professional development, leveraging information from various sources, including SEOCs and culture surveys, to identify areas for growth as an educator.
- Engages in departmental and university-level service through committee participation, where applicable, and contributes to the administration of the university through committee work.
- Cooperates with administrators and colleagues to advance program, campus, and institutional priorities.
- Contributes to curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, quality assurance processes, SLOs and other university initiatives, individually and/or by committee.
- Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues in (including but not limited to) academic and student services, and teaching and learning design, program leadership, and student services, ensuring the integrity of the learning experience.
- Cooperates with administrators and colleagues to advance priorities of academic areas to enhance the Yorkville community.
- Attends and contributes productively to meetings and other program, campus, and institution-wide governance and events.
- Maintains disciplinary and professional accreditation, engages in scholarly activities and builds connections with business, industry, and community to facilitate authentic learning.
- Acts as a brand ambassador for the staff and faculty, contributing to the promotion of core values, distinctive capabilities and a positive corporate culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness.
- Upholds the integrity of academic and university policies and complies with provincial and federal legislation.
What you bring:
- A doctoral degree (PhD, DBA, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
- At minimum 3 years of teaching experience, with preference given to those who have previously taught British Columbia curriculum.
- Demonstrated experience in academia, teaching and learning strategies, curriculum development, professional and or disciplinary expertise, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills, experience in LMS platforms and educational technologies and MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams).
- Proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals, exercise mature discretion and maintain confidentiality of student records, etc.
- Teaching experience in relevant discipline at program level, experience with mature, international and/or diverse learners is preferred.
- Industry experience and inter-disciplinary expertise is preferred.
