**Position Title: Housing Coordinator**
**Full Time Position, dependent on funding availability. This is an hourly**
**Terms of Employment: position, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm), with the availability of up to 35 hours per week.**

- **General Description**:_
- The Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre (SLNFC) is seeking a dynamic individual to join its team as _**Housing Coordinator.**
The Housing Coordinator is responsible for helping clients attain and maintain safe and secure housing. The clients supported by the Housing Coordinator may experience a variety of barriers when trying to access housing and other services including physical health, mental health and substance use challenges and varying levels of ability and life skills.
The Housing Coordinator must support clients with a client-centered, anti-oppressive, decolonized and trauma informed lens while performing all duties and responsibilities in accordance with SLNFC approved policies, plans, standards, and procedures.
- **Duties and Responsibilities**:_
- _Ensure the program delivery is congruent with the Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre’s mission, vision, and philosophy._
- Utilize and maintain the Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre’s client files and input client information using HIFIS and submit new clients and update By-Name-List.
- Advocate for client’s rights
- Support individuals and families to navigate appropriate systems related to obtaining and maintaining housing.
- Provide intake, assessment, referrals, assistance in accessing resources, eviction prevention and outreach mediation for clients.
- Connect clients to community resources, supports and meaningful activities as required.
- Work in partnership with both private and non-profit sector of the housing market to ensure appropriate placement of clients.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive documentation regarding all interactions with clients.
- Documentation must in be in accordance with SLNFC standards and adhere to funder requirements.
- Liaise and develop relationship with property owners and property managers.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy and clear boundaries.
- Compile statistics and data (reports) that will assist with the outcomes and evaluation of this housing program.
- Commit to the development of the SLNFC and participate in internal committees, projects, and activities.
- Adhere to all policies governing the Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre
- **Qualifications and Experience Required for the Position**:_
- Successful completion of two years of post-secondary education, Diploma/certification in community social services; or education in mental health, addictions, and social work
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on residential schooling, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous engagement, and community outreach; knowledge of an Indigenous Language(s) considered an asset.
- Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous, poverty, homelessness, and their root causes.
- Understanding of the barriers and issues facing Urban based Indigenous individuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources, programs, services including HIFIS, By
- Names-List, local/provincial housing, subsidy programs, residential tenancy rights and regulations
- Manage internal and external relationships, to have and demonstrate empathy and compassion, to be aware of emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and the understanding of the feelings, ideas, and beliefs of others.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment.
- Experience completing intakes, assessments, action plans, referral services, and aftercare supports.
- Effective communication, listening and interview skills, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines.
- Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; able to problem solve and take initiative.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and takes initiative.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR required.
- Safe Food Handling Course, an asset.
- Must provide a clear criminal reference check and Vulnerable Sector Clearance
- Must provide copy of valid Ontario Driver’s License and current and up to date drivers abstract prior to employment.
- Will be required to provide current copy of government photo identification, emergency contact information.
