**Position Overview**

The Technical Writer / Editor is responsible for writing and editing technical documentation and reports for the organization’s products and services. This person must have excellent writing and communication skills and be able to translate technical and scientific terms into text that any reader can understand.

**Responsibilities**

The writer will create and/or edit documents that demonstrate how to use JASCO products and/or provide technical summaries and updates on products and services. They will write instruction manuals, guides, journal articles, brochures, technical bulletins, website content, and other kinds of supporting documentation. The writer will work closely with engineering, product marketing, and customer support to create resources to facilitate positive customer engagement with JASCO products and services.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Perform writing assignments in English for technical and general audiences.
- Complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, while working independently and with other writers/editors.
- Copy-editing and substantive editing for accuracy and completeness.
- Select and/or produce photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Assist in laying out material for publication.

**Required Qualifications and Experience**
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and interpret business requirements and distill information, often technical in nature, into clear, concise, and engaging written content; and edit and proofread written materials to produce high quality documentation that meets business needs.
- Highly motivated individual with an ability to understand complex concepts, technologies, and tools with an aptitude to learn quickly.
- Relationship management and customer service skills to liaise and collaborate with management, staff and clients to gather, research and synthesize, and clarify and edit document information.
- Organizational and time management skills, with a keen eye for detail to manage own work priorities to meet multiple, concurrent deliverables and tight timelines effectively and efficiently.
- Underwater Acoustic product experience is considered an asset.
- An ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, blueprints, and product specifications would be an asset.
- Must have excellent written and verbal English language skills. Additional written and verbal language skills in German or Italian would be an asset.
- Ability to obtain a Canadian Security Clearance an asset.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

**Education**

A certificate, diploma or degree in technical communication or equivalent work experience is a requirement.
