Events & Production Assistant

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, the Events & Production Assistant to perform production and front of house support for events and activities at CDCC. Assists in the safe operation of the theatre sound, lighting, projection and related equipment and systems in support of university and community events, meetings, and related activities. The incumbent works with the Director, CDCC team members and external and internal clients to support event production and front of house related needs for university and community user groups. The incumbent also provides basic administrative duties including basic reporting, or other duties as assigned.

Please note, due to operational requirements, this position is scheduled to work Friday to Tuesday, from typically 2pm to 10pm or 3pm to 11pm, depending on the event schedule.

Sufficient physical ability to work in a physically active setting required, with work including: walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and beyond. Exposure to noise can be expected.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to elicit and foster trust, using both diplomacy and tact when responding to client, stakeholder and guest requests in an events and learning environment;
- Ability to setup and operate sound, lighting, projection equipment;
- Ability to monitor and troubleshoot front of house and production event logistics;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement;
- Time management abilities are essential;
- The incumbent must exhibit flexibility and demonstrate the ability to adapt workflow and processes to meet organizational needs;
- The incumbent must be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and use of the internet
- Good knowledge of business practices, office organization, and procedures is required
- A calm, professional approach is imperative at all times, and the technician must be able to multitask complex audio and video set ups while dealing with the public;
- Sufficient physical ability to work in a physically active technical setting required, with work including: walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and beyond. Exposure to noise can be expected;
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends, as this position is scheduled to work Friday to Tuesday, from typically 2pm to 10pm or 3pm to 11pm, depending on the event schedule.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- Two-year college diploma in events planning or theatre technician from an institute of applied arts and technology or college diploma in a related field that provides similar training. Equivalent education combined with work experience will be considered.
- Two years of work-related experience performing technical or front of house operations in a performing arts theatre, cultural centre or similar.
