University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of **Process Improvement Specialist** in our Cancer Care Quality & Innovation department

The Process Improvement Specialist will work closely with front line staff and leadership to help shape the implementation and effective transformation from traditional management methods/approaches to new methods that incorporate process improvement principles that have direct, measurable impacts on patient safety, quality of care, care delivery/flow, employee satisfaction and cost. Primary responsibilities include: 1. providing leadership for the Process Improvement transformation, in support of clinical teams, 2. facilitating Lean Events with measurable impact on patient safety, quality, delivery/ cost, 3. coaching and mentoring leadership, staff, and physicians in proven change management approaches to facilitate adoption of an innovative, management philosophy that celebrates identifying and solving problems daily using process improvement principles.

As member of the Cancer Care Quality and Innovation Team, the Process Improvement Specialist will lead the Operational Excellence portfolio. They will be the pivotal Lead for the following accountabilities:

- Advance Operational Excellence within the cancer centre with a focus on several optimization projects
- Assist in the selection, analysis and reporting of operational excellence related performance indicators to monitor the program, and/or unit level performance to ensure alignment with strategic direction. Some of these indicators will be incorporated into UHN/PM Quality Scorecard and the Cancer Centre Quality Improvement Plan
- Support building of sustainability of results and enhance competency building; enhancing Lean understanding to sustain change
- Complete audits, observations and chart reviews to identify issues to develop processes to track and monitor improvements
- Support the clinical teams in identifying opportunities for improvement and appropriate resolutions
- Provide mentorship, leadership, guidance, and planning for process improvement initiatives through advocating for clinical standardization
- Work collaboratively with the CQIN Program Manager, Clinic/Unit Managers and Physician Disease Site Leads to integrate clinical best practices, legislative requirements and policies into clinical practice
- Develop and implement communication/promotion strategies that drive change management and encourage engagement of staff at all levels
- Participate in the relevant Committees and administrative tasks to advance quality improvement within the Program; prepare QI Project Charters and QI waivers
- Work with other process improvement and operational leads within other Departments to set a consistent standard for operational excellence

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion of a Bachelors degree with a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt required
- Minimum of 6-8 years practical and related experience in the healthcare field
- Experience leading Lean transformations at other institutions, healthcare or within industry is required
- Experience facilitating Value Stream Mapping Sessions and a wide-range of Rapid Improvement Workshops/Kaizens at other facilities is required
- Significant applied experience to allow the individual to immediately facilitate events based on their process improvement knowledge and experience.
