Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Emergency Department, the Clinical Supervisor, in partnership with the Clinical Manager, is responsible for the effective emergency department operations and the provision of clinical services resulting in safe, high quality patient care and outcomes. The Clinical Supervisor guides and supports an interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure positive patient and family experiences in a quality care environment.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Registration held in good standing with the applicable regulatory body.
- 3- 5 years recent Emergency Department experience required
- Recent leadership experience an asset
- Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, communication and facilitation skills.
- _Evidence of strong clinical knowledge and decision making_
- _Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, organizational and time management skills_
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, or Health-care related field, preferred.
**Specific Responsibilities**:
In collaboration with the Manager, the Supervisor:
- Oversees the daily operations of the emergency department to ensure safe, evidence base care is provided at the unit level for our patients and the community we serve.
Responsible for overseeing daily operations:
- Provide staff guidance, instruction, direction, support and leadership to the team for the purpose of achieving key performance improvement results
- Patient Flow - ensure smooth patient flow within the emergency department including supporting strategies to address Pay 4 Results metrics, including but not limited to improvement in ambulance offload times
- Quality Control (i.e. Monitor wait times) and process improvement
- Safety Incident Management (SIMS) monitoring and support to the development of solutions to events
- Maintain and address scheduling problems to ensure operations run efficiently
- Assist in the recruitment of new staff, and orientation of new staff
- Conduct staff performance appraisals in collaboration with the Clinical Manager; provide employee feedback and support staff in their development
- Lead department meetings/huddles and attend various hospital meetings as required
- Monitor various department indicators, identifies deficiencies/efficiencies, and implement solutions, which may require working with other departments and staff
- Completes other tasks or projects as assigned
**The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for**:
Continuous Quality Improvement, Leadership and support for the staff, physicians and volunteers.

- Staffing (participation in the hiring decision, staff scheduling/replacement & future planning)
- Technology systems functioning, improvement and enhancement
- Supplies & equipment monitoring/ordering
- Process Redevelopment - review, documentation, improvements
- Staff Training & Development (i.e. may have some initial discussion with staff related to performance deficits and offers encouragement and support, not able to be the one accountable for PA completion).
- Risk Pro Monitoring and support to the development of solutions to events
