Job Summary

The Dietetics Program Manager is responsible for developing, evaluating and assessing academic advising services for both the UBC Dietetics (Undergraduate) Program and the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics (graduate) Program within the Food, Nutrition and Health Program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Primary responsibilities include supporting the academic success, personal/career development and retention of domestic and international students enrolled into the Programs. This requires potential incumbents to maintain an in-depth current understanding of program requirements and options to provide accurate, consistent and individualized advising services. The Program Manager undertakes special administrative initiatives as required.

Organizational Status

Works independently under the general direction of the Director of Dietetics. Interacts with undergrad and graduate Dietetics students and works closely with the other dietetic team members, LFS staff and faculty. With considerable autonomy, this position contributes directly to the development of policies and priorities of the Program. Liaises with the Student Services team and the Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies unit within the Faculty as well as individuals/departments/units both internal (i.e. University Counsel) and external to the Faculty and the University including the Health Authorities.

Work Performed
- Maintains extensive knowledge of resources available to students across campus, and refers students to relevant and appropriate university resources, such as healthcare, finance, counselling as required.
- Under the general supervision of the Director, develops policy, procedures and priorities for advising, course instructor evaluations, course set-up/scheduling and course outline projects.
- Develops and implements strategies to ensure Dietetics students are supported by conducting research, recommending, developing and implementing new recruitment, transition/onboarding, engagement and career planning projects to the Program.
- Manages undergraduate and graduate student management, academic advising functions and engagement cycle processes for the Dietetics programs.
- Advises students with registration inquiries and course selection to ensure they meet degree and promotion requirements for the Dietetics major / MND and selected program prerequisites and admission requirements. Provides advice about academic concession, continuation requirements, transfer credit, and re-admission to the University.
- Evaluates student (Dietetics Major and MND) academic records and histories in order to provide individualized advice for students regarding academic planning, including course registration, admission to competitive majors/minors, adjudication and for degree-completion, in line with their personal and career goals.
- Proactively develops and sustains advising relationships with students throughout their program and ensures that students are actively supported throughout their program.Identifying students, or wider concerns/trends that need to be addressed by supervisors or units/programs.
- Participates in the planning and evaluation of academic advising processes by evaluating and making recommendations for areas of potential improvement and growth and develops advising programs, policies and initiatives to support the strategic direction of both programs.
