Job Description Summary

The Program Manager will provide dedicated program coordination and evaluation activities for the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health (CEIH). The Program Manager will be responsible for the development of the CEIH Public Health Training Certificate in Indigenous Health (Certificate Program), and the implementation of assigned CEIH evaluation activities on time and within established standards. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of data collection instruments, the collection of quantitative and qualitative data, and the completion of reports for CEIH stakeholders.

Organizational Status

The Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health is a single coordinating point for Indigenous health initiatives within UBC, and a contact for community organizations external to UBC. The CEIH is located in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH), Faculty of Medicine. The Centre aims to develop and recommend targeted and integrated plans for Indigenous health activities at UBC. It is responsible for organizing, implementing and evaluating the programs housed within the Centre (such as the Summer Science Student Program, and the UBC Certificate in Aboriginal Health and Community Administration Program) with additional programs likely to be created and/or adopted by the Centre.

The Program Manager will report to the CEIH Associate Director - Research and CEIH Co-Directors. The Program Manager will work closely with and report to the CEIH Senior Operations Manager for operations related issues. They will also work with client(s) both internal and external to UBC, funding agencies, and other university departments (for example the health faculties and, Office of Research Services).

Work Performed

Indigenous Public Health Program (100%):
Outreach and Marketing (25%)

Outreach for the Indigenous Public Health Program is critical to ensure that knowledge is adequately disseminated to target audiences. The Program Manager will be responsible for:

- Communicating information about the program to Indigenous communities, organizations, health bodies and governments.
- Connecting with potential and interested students to provide program details.
- Maintaining contact information and communication with prospective students.
- Establishing relationships with organizations that may benefit from staff receiving Indigenous Public Health Training.
- Maintaining communication and relationships with the First Nations Health Authority in regards to the FNHA Scholars program.
- Designing and distributing materials about CEIH Indigenous Public Health programs.

Admissions and Adjudication (25%)

Maintaining an accessible and responsive admissions process is essential to keeping the Indigenous Public Health training programs low-barrier. The Program Manager will be responsible for:

- Effectively communicating admissions dates, deadlines, process and requirements to interested students.
- Responding to applicant questions regarding all aspects of admissions.
- Organizing meetings to adjudicate applicants and incorporating key CEIH team members in the adjudication process.

Administration and Evaluation (25%)

Ensuring that the Indigenous Public Health Programs are effectively administrated and evaluated to ensure the needs of participating Indigenous students are being adequately met is critical to the sustained success of the program. The Program Manager will be responsible for:

- Ensuring that all students are registered in the program and/or courses.
- Maintaining relationships with various UBC administrative units to ensure that UBC processes are low-barrier for Indigenous students.
- Keeping financial records and maintaining the budget for the implementation of Winter and Summer Institutes.
- Ensuring accommodations are booked far in advance for students traveling from across Canada.
- Developing surveys for the evaluation of courses to ensure student feedback is being incorporated into all aspects of the program.
