**Reports To**:The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and/or Designate

**Job Purpose**: Reporting to the CEO and/or designate, the Brain Injury Support Services and Network Advocate will be responsible for providing direct support to individuals affected by brain injuries through our helpline service and other related programs, while also leading advocacy efforts to promote policy changes and improved support services for the brain injury community. This position requires a combination of empathy, communication skills, advocacy expertise, and a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with brain injuries.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Helpline Support**:

- Working with the Brain Injury Care Coordinator:_
- Respond to calls from survivors of brain injury, family members, caregivers, and professionals on our 1-800 helpline.
- Provide non-judgmental, empathetic, and confidential support, listening to concerns and offering guidance on brain injury-related challenges.
- Conduct thorough inquiries to identify additional support needs beyond the initial purpose of the call.
- Follow up with callers to assess ongoing needs and provide further assistance as required.

**Resource Navigation and Advocacy**:

- Assist clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems to access necessary resources such as medical, psychosocial, legal, financial, housing, employment, and transportation assistance.
- Facilitate linkage to brain injury rehabilitation services, associations, and other support networks.
- In consultation with the Brain Injury Care Coordinator, provide advocacy support in securing needed services, actively following up to ensure successful attainment.

**Network Development for Brain Injury Speaks**:

- Build and maintain strong relationships and networks with brain injury providers, hospitals, advocacy organizations, and related agencies to facilitate access to services for individuals and families.
- Act as a neutral liaison between service providers and individuals/families, advocating for the best interests of those living with brain injuries.

**Network Advocacy and Growth**:

- Develop and implement strategies to grow our Brain Injury Speaks Network, engaging individuals, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
- Collect and analyze data on the experiences and needs of individuals living with brain injuries to inform advocacy efforts and drive policy change.
- Collaborate with government officials, policymakers, and stakeholders to advocate for policies and legislation that address the needs of brain injury patients.
- Increase public awareness of brain injuries through targeted communication strategies, media outreach, and public education initiatives.

**Reporting and Evaluation**:

- Submit an updated monthly report (including evaluations) to the CEO and/or designate

**Other**:

- Keep accessible records of all communications
- Consult with the CEO and/or designate on difficult cases or developments in legislation or services
- Consult with the CEO and/or designate on cases requiring advocacy externally or outside of the office
- Represent OBIA in community forums, on committees or at events as requested by the CEO
- Assume such other duties as assigned by the CEO and/or designate

**Qualifications**

**Education**
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, public health, communications, advocacy

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a non-judgmental and empathetic approach.
- Knowledge of healthcare and social service systems, with experience in resource navigation and advocacy.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Dynamic, person with ability to develop rapport quickly with others and capacity to engage others easily
- Experience in community engagement, advocacy, and strategic communication.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and service providers.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media platforms
- Experience and knowledge in data gathering and analysis
- Superior organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage the distinct responsibilities of this position.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize and develop audience-specific materials.
- Superior capability with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) as well as online communications and knowledge-sharing platforms
- Online survey development and execution.
- Previous experience working in a not-for-profit
