Job Summary:
Strathcona Beer Co Tasting Room, a favorite East Van gathering spot known for its beer-inspired food and pizza, is looking for an Executive Chef/Head Chef to lead our culinary team. This role requires a highly skilled chef with expertise in pizza-making, brunch, salads, handhelds, and bar snacks, all crafted with local, sustainable ingredients. You’ll bring experience in fermentation, pickling, dough preparation, and pizza oven techniques, while also managing inventory with precision and using software like Marketman to maintain stock control. As a key leader, you’ll oversee a full-time kitchen team to create dishes that perfectly pair with our craft beers, embodying the vibrant, community-focused spirit of Strathcona. Knowledge of scheduling apps, experience with Toast POS, and expertise in optimizing kitchen costs and labor are essential for success in this role.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead Culinary Operations: Oversee all kitchen activities, ensuring efficient operations and upholding Strathcona’s reputation for high-quality, from-scratch pizza, fresh salads, creative handhelds, and innovative bar snacks.
- Menu Development & Innovation: Collaborate with the culinary team to design seasonal and innovative menu offerings that showcase local, sustainable ingredients and appeal to diverse tastes.
- Inventory & Cost Control: Manage inventory rigorously, leveraging Marketman software to track stock levels, reduce waste, and ensure cost-effective purchasing. Keep food costs within budget while meeting production targets.
- Scheduling & POS Management: Utilize scheduling apps to coordinate team shifts, optimize labor costs, and ensure smooth kitchen coverage. Oversee use of Toast POS to track sales, manage orders, and streamline kitchen operations.
- Team Leadership & Training: Train, mentor, and inspire kitchen staff, fostering a positive, collaborative environment. Build a team that delivers quality and consistency in every dish.
- Collaborate on Events & Promotions: Work with the Tasting Room General Manager to plan and execute special events, community initiatives, and menu promotions that highlight seasonal ingredients and pair well with Strathcona’s craft beers.
- Uphold Safety & Cleanliness: Enforce food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen as a top priority.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Resolve kitchen-related challenges effectively, maintaining a calm and productive atmosphere during peak hours.
- Stay Current on Culinary Trends: Keep updated with industry trends, sustainable practices, and community preferences to continually elevate menu offerings.

**Requirements**:

- Proven Culinary Leadership: Extensive experience as an Executive Chef, Head Chef, or similar role, ideally with a background in pizza, brunch, and pub fare.
- Inventory & Cost Management: Strong experience in inventory software (Marketman preferred), with a proven ability to control costs and manage stock efficiently.
- POS & Scheduling Systems: Familiarity with Toast POS and experience in using scheduling apps to coordinate kitchen staffing and maintain operational efficiency.
- Creative & Passionate: A love for culinary arts with the ability to create innovative, visually appealing dishes.
- Effective Team Leadership: Ability to lead, train, and motivate a culinary team to achieve high standards in food quality and service.
- Adaptable & Organized: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to Cleanliness & Safety: Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices with a hands-on approach to maintaining a spotless, safe kitchen.
- Flexible Availability: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support the demands of a bustling kitchen.

Pay: $52,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
